I looked it up. I think it was for No One Killed Jessica. That year, Vidya was nominated in the lead for Kahaani. There was no way she wasn't going to get the award because that movie was a big critical and commercial hit. If they had stuck Rani in lead actress, they wouldn't have been able to give her an award over Vidya.

So they stuck her in Supporting and made her the winner. Filmfare played a political game in order to favor her. It ended up being really unfair for the other supporting actresses because her role was so much bigger and better than theirs so obviously she would win.

But Rani got pissed because she wanted the lead actor award and didn't want to be called supporting. If I remember correctly, Jitesh even made some sly comments about Rani because she refused to attend and pick up the award because she was mad.

They should have just put in Lead where she belonged and not given her any award and given the supporting award to someone else.

These were the nominations for supporting actress that year:

2012 Rani Mukerji – No One Killed Jessica as Meera Gaity

• Juhi Chawla – I Am as Megha
• Kalki Koechlin – Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara as Natasha Arora
• Parineeti Chopra – Ladies vs Ricky Bahl as Dimple Chaddha
• Swara Bhaskar – Tanu Weds Manu as Payal

Wow! That one was more of Vidya's movie though 😳

Alia Bhatt won best actress for her 10-minute side role but Kalki wasn't nominated as leading lady when she had a similar role in that movie

Deepika Padukone won for Happy New Year

There are so many instances where lobbying played a crucial role and talent and fairness lost out

Im sure he did and clearly he states that Farhan was OK with it. I dont see what u don’t understand from his post. Its an established fact that award shows are a big lobby and only the known names and the ones pushed by favoritism are selected in categories and decided as winners. Award shows have ZERO credibility.

Yeah, Vidya had two nominations in the Lead year that year. One for Kahaani and one for No One Killed Jessica.

But everyone wanted to act entitled and the ones who really lost in the game were the other supporting actresses - smaller stars like Swara Bhaskar and Kalki. Even Parineeti was just starting out and Juhi hardly ever gets acknowledged.
