It's confirmed. Emraan Hashmi is collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt in their much-anticipated Gangubai Kathiawadi. The Gangster actor has been roped in to essay a part that's not much longer but very pivotal to the narrative of this biographical drama that tells the story of a notorious mafia brothel queen of Mumbai's Kamathipura.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Emraan has been brought on board to play Alia Bhatt's husband who sells her off at a brothel pushing her into prostitution at a very young age. Said to be based on a chapter from S Hussain Zaidi's book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, the film will see Emraan playing Gangubai's father's accountant who falls in love with her and runs away with her to settle down in Mumbai. It's said that Ganugbai's husband sold her at a brothel for 500 rupees just when she was dreaming of starting a new life with him.
Emraan is believed to have agreed to play this negative character for his cousin Alia and completed his shooting secretly before the lockdown was imposed in March. This role was earlier offered to Kartik Aryan but he declined it as he didn't want to get into a negative character at this stage of his career. The role reportedly went to some other known names too but they all turned it down making a way for Emraan to step in finally.

Gangubai Kathiawadi will also star Ajay Devgn in a small but powerful role. He is said to be playing dreaded gangster Karim Lala who trained and prepared Gangubai to become one of the "Mafia Queens". Ajay was supposed to film his sequence in April but that got postponed due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The shooting is now expected to resume after the monsoon period is over.
