I didn't know doing drugs makes one a shitty person, was he a drug peddler? his life he can do whatever the hell he wants. His relationships are his business too, no one else should care about it. He is minding his own business, saying nothing wrong to anyone, yet the people who are throwing abuses at him are supposed to be the good people.

100% not innocent from any angle. He should be grateful that his father was in Congress and Congress was ruling at that time,so he got out of TADA charges.

Hirani must feel indebted to Sanjay for doing Munnabhai and making him successful director. The blatant whitewashing and blaming everyone other than Sanjay in Sanju was puke inducing.

I wish the media boycotts Hirani, VVC, Ranbir and Sanjay Dutt's news after the Media bashing in the last song in the movie.

The problem is that the judiciary of the country is extremely effed up. A judgement can be passed only on the basis of the evidence presented and the charge sheet, police report etc is of prime importance. When a case takes several years and the witnesses are tampered with and the case stops being what it originally was, the judgement eventually becomes a hallow piece of paper. That's exactly what has happened with a lot of politicians and famous actors. So it's convenient for all these people to blame it all on conjecture and throw the judgment on your face- the court acquitted me, the court never convicted me under this Act, the court was not convinced with the evidence presented, that witness turned hostile etc etc. Which is exactly why you have no idea what happened in half these cases and then when someone makes a successful biopic or writes a compelling biography, few buy the narrative and few are confused and willing to give benefit of doubt. It's kinda sad and hilarious that all the blame is eventually shifted on the media (tabloid journalism sucks and there is no two ways about it but it was an unfair generalisation in the context of the film). He was a celeb so he is written about. But what they forget is he is a celeb so he escaped conviction/was given much lesser punishment/managed to get bail within no time/got infinite paroles. I dont think these ppl even understand how much a common man suffers in a similar situation.

Well nothing changed in IF , I am amazed at the comments here. Ok here are my two cents.

I don't think Sanju movie changed my perception of Sanjay Dutt and I don't see Hirani whitewashing Sanjay's character at any point. Yes I will be that very few percentage who feels like that because while watching the movie I got the feeling.. what kind of jerk this Sanjay dutt is.. obviously film does tend to bring out sympathy for him in the end.. Yes he paid for what he did.. but we form our opinion based on what we hear or read in newspapers and that's fact.. Judiciary in this country took 23 years for this case to come to closure and Sanjay was clear of all TADA charges. While many can argue against the judgement , the fact is that he was cleared and Judge clearly stated that Sanjay Dutt is not a terrorist so linking him with bomb blasts charges is simply a narrative that solely popular bcoz its more negative..and negative is more popular than what the truth or fact is.. May be Truth is somewhere else but I am amazed at those who are so confident of his involvement without actual proofs and knowledge of his case..

Coming to the movie.. Movie doesn't say he is innocent, he is not innocent - He gets into Jail to serve his sentence for Arms Act charge which is a fact.. and they show his taking guns and even destroying them.. Yes they added his perspective.. More to say his side of story to make us feel sympathy or empathy for him..

As far as movie is concerned, I loved the performances and tight script , father son relationship and amazing friendship between Sanju and Kamli. It is worth watching .. his story definitely gives you something to think about whether it is his faults which one should not do... or his resilience to see it all through..

Edited- Those who feel that being celebrity helped Sanjay come out of this with very less.. I wonder that even after being a celebrity a case went on for 20 years with charge for TADA and 18 months of Jail before the actual verdict came.. and then 6 years imprisonment for a celebrity under ARMS ACT .. not TADA ..still if you feel he got through easily.. 😊 then May be my perception is bit different..will go with that

India is the country where a CM is abandoned by security at hospital under pressure from some Mannarguddi mafia. India is a country where a CM's chopped legs below the knees are clearly visible and the truth is buried.
India is a country where a Sunanda Pushkar is found dead with bite marks and cigarette burn marks on her body, CCTV footage only from her death period magically disappears, and the police chargesheet rules it as a suicide.
India is a country where courts routinely save naxals and naxal thinkers like Saibaba, Binayak Sen and murderess Nalini Sundar who alongwith her husband Siddharth Varadarajan, owner of Wire regularly throw shit on India, forget about being in jail.
Even today Sanjay Dutt's press articles from then are disappearing from the internet.
Burying the truth and converting sunrise into sunset is child's play for some in India.

Also ministers go for morning walks and get murdered because he was speaking against a powerful duo in his state. The judge hearing the case against of one of the duo mysteriously dies of heart attack and the person is soon let off by the next judge. The same duo today give all of India moral science lessons and we lap it up. I agree burying the truth and converting sunrise into sunset is child's play for some in India.

No. Most probably what he got as punishment is only some percent of what he deserves.
