It is impossible. Almost. Because she is not an out-of-work actress. Or a critically acclaimed actress with zero commercial viability. She's been selling like hot cakes these days and pretty much everyone in HW wants her, right now. You literally cannot watch a single celeb-based news show without escaping a Jennifer Lawrence mention. I doubt she would have any dates available for Paani, which has been in the news for so long, making it almost a "stale" film. I am not doubting Shekhar Kapur's credibility, it's just that I really doubt YRF can get Lawrence for this project at this point in time.I am sure when the hype around her dies out slowly, then may be she'd act in it. May be. Right now, the chances of YRF trying to cash in on her popularity is much higher than her being in this film.
You could be right. But I find Jennifer to be grounded enough to not reject work based on production houses or money. She has said in her interviews that she likes to do big production films, but the best scripts come her way from the indie directors. Paani is not a Bollywood film for her to reject, it has a strong team from Hollywood as well. Plus, films based in India have gotten popular in HW following the success of Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi.
Considering the news has been printed in a publication like DNA, it would have some authenticity. Even if its PR, it is from YRF and they surely must have a reason for spreading the same. The fact that YRF has even considered approaching JLaw means they are targeting the big league. Anyway, its about time that names get thrown up for Paani's leading lady. If Deepika and Katrina can do every third film then why not Jennifer. Any news is good news.
I still would not dismiss the news as rubbish since the casting director of Paani is Mary Vernieu, the same who did casting for Silvers Linings Playbook and American Hustle.
If not true, I am still rooting for Mia Wasikowska because I like her and she does not come with the baggage of extreme fame and success as JLaw does.
