The star was honoured by the Los Angeles City Council in February for his contribution to cinema.
He told The Times of India: "Hollywood's storytelling and logic is different. They can't relate to our cinema and they don't understand. Their way of telling stories is different.
"They can't logically understand as to how people are talking to each other in one instance and in the other, are singing songs!
"For them logic holds more importance than celebration. That's why they call our movies musical. They go with what they think is the best, not what we think is the best.
"When we shoot dance and song sequences abroad, the audiences gets shocked and surprised. But that's Bollywood.
"Our films unite the country. In our cinema halls, there is no rich or poor. There is no religion. There are so many benefits."
The Silver Linings Playbook star recently accused Bollywood filmmakers of suffering from "Tarantino disease".
He was nominated along with the rest of the US film's cast for the 'Best Ensemble' award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
