PART FOUR

A red mark on the calendar indicated that it was DAY 5, and Adarsh was once again ready with another plan.
Why did it take him a few damn minutes to disregard the repercussions?
Gazing at his friend who was engrossed in conversation with Karan, Ayush pondered.
Karan Mehra, Arjun's childhood friend. He chose to see his friend, who appeared particularly joyful these days.
In an attempt to unravel this mystery, he especially came there as it was long ago since Karan had felt genuine happiness in Arjun's tone.
He recalled the day Arjun broke all of his ties with his family, leaving his house to pursue his career.
He knew his friend was broken by his father's behavior but at least that Arjun was much more expressive and approachable than this one, whom they got after all those years.
Since his return, he discovered that his friend had completely changed, but Karan tried his level best to push Arjun to express himself.
He was aware that Roshni's death had left him broken, and that the loss of his father had also taken a heavy toll on his emotions.
For Arjun, his father's mere presence in this world was sufficient, regardless of the disagreements they had. If nothing else, at least he was alive, safe & sound. That was enough for him.
There was a glimmer of hope that things would improve for them one day, but the crushing of that hope was enough to shatter the already broken soul.
He saw his loved ones leaving him behind with a mere feeling of guilt.
Karan noticed that he became more protective of Adarsh after that. He knew for Arjun his younger brother was his reason to live.
He had always found him to be much more lenient and soft towards Adarsh. He always ignored his mistakes and let them go with minimal consequences.
Somehow, Karan knew that his friend had returned home, leaving many things behind, but he was not ready to acknowledge it.
He was trying hard to bury everything in his heart, whether it was the broken pieces of his friendship with Sameer or the unspoken bond he had with Riya.
Karan was well aware of his best friend's inner turmoil, and after a year, he saw a glimmer of hope in the form of a particular girl, and he knew Adarsh could not ignore anything related to his brother.
Karan was certain that only one Rawte could deal with another Rawte. So he let him do whatever he wanted without revealing anything about Arjun's inner self.
"What were you thinking? I would not be able to find out anything. I am Adarsh, the Rawte. I am capable of doing anything."
Karan shook his head at him, who was self-praising for half an hour.
He knew Adarsh would figure it out on his own, and that is exactly what happened.
"No, I never thought that way. I believe in your stalking skills. By the way who was stalking his neighborhood as a punishment and doing all the house chores alone? You must have enjoyed it."
Karan's voice sounded sarcastic.
Ayush put his hand on his face, resisting the urge to laugh at Adarsh's annoyed expression as he listened to Karan's words.
"Tell you are ACP Arjun's friend without telling you are ACP Arjun's friend."
Adarsh rolled his eyes. Karan chuckled in return and stood up to meet Arjun.
"By the way, everything started from a fight and a....... red clip."
Karan said as he walked away. He had a mischievous smile on his lips.
However, Adarsh's eyes widened at this not-so-enough spoiler. He jumped over him from behind and wrapped his arms around his neck.
"How do you know?"
He inquired. His voice was full of curiosity.
He knew his brother would not have told him, so how did Karan find out?
"I had my sources."
Karan grinned. He was undoubtedly proud of himself.
No matter what he always had an eye on Arjun. He never intended to interfere in his life, and he never did, but as a friend, he could not leave him alone.
In this quest, he had several little encounters with ACP Sameer Rathod.
He did notice a flicker of recognition in Sameer's eyes at the police station, and he might remember him, but it did not matter to him.
He did not know if Arjun had forgiven him, but for Karan, everything was black and white; there was no gray area in life.
He only believed in right and wrong, and Sameer was wrong in this equation; rights should be hugged, and wrongs should be pushed away. That concluded it. That was what he believed.
"Did Arjun Bhai know that he had stalkers all over around him?"
Ayush raised an eyebrow at the duo, who immediately turned to face him.
"He doesn't need to know."
They both spoke in unison.
Ayush raised his hands in response. He was stuck and he couldn't do anything about it.
Soon all three of them were engaged in a serious discussion of their further plan.

Walking with the stack of files, she didn't realize when she collided with the person coming from the opposite side.
She did not let the files slip from her grasp, but she yanked Arjun's cup of tea with full force.
She looked at him with wide eyes who was disappointedly looking at the spilled tea as if he had lost something priceless.
She set the files down on the table, muttering an apology.
Meanwhile, he bent down to pick up the broken pieces of glass.
"Sshh......"
When the sharp piece of glass pierced his finger, he quickly withdrew his hand.
"Arjun....."
She panicked at the sight. Horror filled her eyes. Her first instinct was to lower herself to his level and grab his hand.
"I am sorry, I am sorry."
When she saw the red liquid oozing from his finger, she felt a rush of guilt.
He just kept looking at her, not saying anything, as she dragged him to the pantry, opened the tap, and dipped his hand in the running water.
Her face exuded panic. He then noticed her opening the cabinets and looking for the first aid kit she discovered in one of the drawers.
She quickly approached him and applied the bandage to his finger.
"Done?"
He, who was observing her for some good minutes, asked her.
"It's just a small cut, Riya."
"And it was not your mistake."
He said softly, patting her right cheek, which turned crimson red within seconds.
He looked at her with amusement.
"By the way, you wasted my tea. Now make me one."
He said this to lighten up the situation.
She nodded quickly and gathered the ingredients together.
He was closely watching her every move. However, his mind was preoccupied with her words from their previous conversation.
"The first step to love is friendship and the last step too. Only the distance in between is remaining. Take a step. The path will unravel itself.
Think. Just think.
And for you to think. I give you my entire life."
It was a confession, and somewhere in his heart, he knew he wanted this too, but......
Yeah, he was caught up in a lot of ifs and buts.
He began to feel trapped in his own emotions when her voice interrupted his train of thought.
"So, how was life?"
Feeling him lost somewhere, she asked to initiate a conversation.
He looked at her for a few seconds and then replied,
"As usual, complicated."
He shrugged his shoulders as the past year flashed before his eyes.
"Why?"
She posed the question.
"I don't know. It's just that I carry a lot of baggage with me."
He said this while looking at no particular point.
"Roshni's death, Sameer's accusations, and my guilt; Dad's death, and my regret; Adarsh's responsibility, and my fears; you and me, and......"
He came to an abrupt stop.
"And?"
She asked in anticipation.
"And my insecurities."
He let out a sigh.
"I have never been good in relationships. I always end up either offending or hurting my loved ones."
He barely whispered, but she heard him.
"What did Roshni get from our relationship? Death. What did Sameer gain from our friendship? Hurt. And what did Dad get out of his son? Disappointment. And Adi, I am not sure if I am being responsible enough for him."
He appeared tired.
His voice bears the weight of the past.
Little did he know the quality she admired about him was his sincerity towards his relationships.
His loyalty towards his late wife was something she wished for, and here, this man was caught up in insecurities, disregarding his efforts.
She glanced at him before speaking,
"I am sure Roshni has many fond memories of your marriage."
She turned off the stove.
"And she would not like it if you continued to blame yourself for her fate; it is not your fault, Arjun."
He cast a glance at her.
Had she realized that she had started calling him by his name alone, without the sir prefix?
"It was not you who hurt Rathod sir; it was the circumstances."
She positioned two cups on the shelf and began pouring the tea into them.
"It was not you who disappointed your father; it was simply a difference of opinion. That's it."
Her words were like magic, enthralling.
He felt as if a burden was lifted from his shoulders.
Sometimes, the only thing you need is assurance, and he was craving for that.
"And about Adi......."
Her lips curled into a smile.
"Do you think you are not being responsible enough for him?"
She passed the cup to him.
Her question made him ponder on his thoughts.
"All I want is his happiness. I could not imagine him getting lost in the chaos of life like me."
He spoke softly while holding the cup of tea in his hands.
"I could see my younger self in Adi."
Her gentle gaze remained fixed on his face. She could see the love of his younger brother in his eyes.
"The carefree, happy-go-lucky, the one I once was, and I wanted him to be like that always."
She looked at him when he mentioned 'the one I once was'; she wished to see him like that.
"After the demise of dad, I decided to come back home forever leaving everything behind to shield my younger brother from the harsh realities of life."
He was finally beginning to open up.
She was always eager to hear him, but she never wanted to push him, and today, when he was unraveling himself in front of her, she felt a sense of satisfaction in her heart.
"I didn't want Adi to end up like me."
"Life is harsh, and it gets worse when you do not have your loved ones by your side."
He spoke and turned to face her.
His eyes......
They seemed so expressive today, telling the story of his past experiences.
And at that point, she promised herself to never give up on him.
"I know I did wrong to us."
He said this while staring directly into her eyes.
Her heart raced at the mention of 'us'; he was acknowledging their relationship, which meant a lot to her.
"But I want to fix everything."
She smiled, she smiled widely. Her eyes twinkled.
This single sentence was enough to give her hope. Hope for a better future, a happy ending similar to those found in fairy tales and romantic films.
'.....and they lived happily ever after' was exactly what she wanted.
She desired that 'ever after' with him.
A shriek broke the spell created by those words. They looked at each other with confusion before rushing outside.
They could see Chotu lying on the floor as he slipped due to the.......
Oh no!
Both of them exchanged glances.
.....due to the spilled tea on the floor.
Poor Chotu!!!
"Chotu, are you okay?"
Shree asked, grasping his hand.
"Yeah, I am fine."
Chotu said, placing his hand on his back.
"Arjun sir, Riya please help."
Shree spoke as he struggled with his giant friend.
"Oh, yeah."
They both rushed towards them as it was kind of their mistake whose consequences were being faced by poor Chotu.

Rathod noticed a change in the environment as the day progressed, with the ongoing case, Chotu's whining, Shree's teasing, and Riya and Arjun's small yet meaningful encounters.
He could see his friend moving on, and he was pleased.
He wanted him to embark on a new life.
The only thing that hurt was that he could never be a part of his friend's new life.
Yeah, it hurts and he couldn't blame anyone for that.
It was his fault for shoving his friend away.
He was the one who created the distance between them, and it had now grown so far that he could not see any way back.
He knew a simple apology would not fix anything, but he wanted to try at least once, just in case there was hope.
He stood up from the chair, grabbed his car keys from the table, and exited his cabin.
As soon as he entered the parking lot, he noticed Riya and Arjun approaching Arjun's vehicle. They soon settled into their respective seats, and the car vanished from his sight.
He also walked towards his car. However, his mind was constantly generating phrases to say to Arjun.

The DAY 6 started with a happy note and positive vibes.
He whistled as he entered his room, and a constant smile was playing on his lips, a rare scene to be seen, but it was happening, for real.
Standing in front of the mirror, he began to wrap his wristwatch around his wrist when his gaze caught something......
A present.....
He approached the side table, which held a box wrapped in a beautiful blue colored paper.
His eyes were filled with a sense of confusion.
He opened the box after unwrapping it.
A crisp white shirt with a small card.
Yeah, that's what he had found in that box.
Initially, he was confused, but then his attention was immediately drawn to the name at the bottom right of the card.
"Riya...."
Surprised, yeah he was surprised as it was an unexpected present.
He placed the box on the table, amused by the gift, and pulled out the shirt.
He stood in front of the mirror while putting the shirt in front of him.
His mind went back to their first encounter-or perhaps more accurately, their first first.
A smile, a genuine smile adored his lips.
The situation was similar on the other side.
She looked at the tiny present she had received with surprise, admiration, and anticipation.
A red clip packed in a tiny box with a small card with Arjun's name was mentioned at the bottom right corner.
A smile appeared on her face as the memory of the past lingered in her mind. Yeah, the same one, their first encounter, actually their first fight.
Standing in front of the mirror she put that clip on her hair.
She had never thought that one day she would fall so hard for that person with whom her first interaction was a fight.
How their dynamics had evolved over the years!
From their first encounter to this day, everything seemed a dream, a beautiful dream.
A year ago, when he left, she felt as if she had lost all hope, but today, this tiny clip brought back her lost memories with a flicker of hope.
She picked up the phone typed a thank you, and sent it to him, not before glancing at the card she received along with the present that also stated the venue for their meeting. She twirled around with the card in her hands and a constant smile on her lips.
On the other hand, he took out his phone, typed a thank you message, and texted her. He sat down, put his phone aside, and picked up the card that came with the gift, taking one last look at the venue.
A genuine and satisfactory smile adored his lips matching his inner peace.
The three heads that were peeking through the door smiled with satisfaction.
Adarsh, Ayush, and Karan all leaned back and gave each other thumbs up.
Their plan was running smoothly. Was there anything else they wanted?
No,
Nothing......
Everything was on point.
Until when?
They didn't know that.
___________________________
They both arrived at the designated location.
She noticed him wearing his white shirt with denim jeans. His sleeves were folded as usual.
As he approached her, his gaze was drawn to her white top and blue jeans, but it was the red clip in her hair that piqued his attention.
A plethora of memories flashed before his eyes.
He wondered how small things could contain such rich nuances!
An isolated area at the cafe was decorated for both of them.
So they took their seats as the day progressed into quality time, but the trouble in paradise arose when Riya went to use the restroom, and her phone buzzed, catching Arjun's attention.
What surprised him was the number blinking on Riya's phone.
A perplexed Arjun answered the phone and waited for the other person to speak.
An impatient Adarsh didn't wait for a response from the other side and started to shower questions.
"Where are you? At least update me on a message. Now you got your Mr. Perfect so you have forgotten how I had helped you till now."
"You were even hesitant to ignore him but it was my brain who decoded how to make him jealous. Remember how he reacted to the red flowers I sent you?"
He continued to ramble on, unaware of the blunder he was making.
"If you continue to follow my instructions, I can assure you that my brother will fall hard for you."
Adarsh's proud voice echoed on the other end, causing him to clench his teeth.
Disappointment? Anger? Hurt? Or betrayal?
He didn't understand what he was feeling right now, but the feeling was not a pleasant one.
"Hey! Are you there?"
Adarsh finally bothered to inquire when he noticed the silence on the other side.
"What happened Riya? Is my plan not working?"
He asked.
"It is working, it is working perfectly."
Adarsh fell silent as soon as he heard his brother's voice from the other side causing him to straighten up immediately.
He was taken aback when he realized what blender he had made.
He opened his mouth to say something but neither the words dare to came out of his mouth nor he mustered up the courage to speak.
Within a few seconds, he could feel the line going dead, leaving him in a flabbergasted state.
______________________________
She was happily moving towards the table when she noticed him looking directly at her.
His eyes.......
She saw something unusual in those black orbs but she couldn't figure out what was that.
As she stepped close to him she heard him saying.
"It is working, it is working perfectly."
His clenched teeth and angry expressions.....
She couldn't get it what just happened to him in some minutes and whom he was talking to?
With all of these confusing thoughts racing through her mind, she approached him when he slammed the phone in her hands.
She looked at him with obvious confusion in her eyes.
However, one look at the caller ID revealed the entire story.
For a second, she fell short of words. The only thing she was able to do was to shake her head negatively as she witnessed the look of betrayal in his eyes.
"Arjun....."
She made a low whisper.
"So everything was planned."
He whispered stepping back.
She attempted to hold his hands, but he raised them in response.
She approached him, but he kept backing away.
The look in his eyes was hurting her.
He assumed that her emotions were pre-planned. She did not want him to retreat into his shell again. That was not something she wanted.
She wanted to explain herself, but he was not willing to listen.
Her heart sank as she saw him moving away from her as if his step was taking him far away from her.
"I love you."
"I do."
She yelled, but he did not stop to listen to her.
"I wish I could place my heart in front of you."
She spoke as tears streamed down her cheeks. She collapsed on her knees.
_________________________
Adarsh remembered calling Riya on the night of his birthday celebration.
He persuaded her to join his plan.
She was reluctant at first but eventually agreed.
Adarsh did plan everything, but only to make Arjun realize his feelings for Riya. It was all with good intentions, and he knew his brother would have an idea, but right now, he was not ready to listen to anything in his anger.
He dialed Arjun's number again, but it went unanswered as it had for the previous half an hour.
Karan dialed his number in the hopes of receiving a response but was also disappointed.
Adarsh's heart began to well up with guilt.
As if he had screwed up everything.
As if it was entirely his fault.
He never intended to hurt his brother, but he did so unintentionally, and the feeling engulfed him from within.
He wanted to speak to him and explain himself.
He wanted to tell him that he could never play with his brother's emotions.
Ayush reassured him by placing a hand on his shoulder.
Karan sighed as he looked towards them and attempted to contact his stubborn friend once more.
Likewise, Riya attempted to contact him but was unsuccessful.
Frustration, anger, worry, concern, guilt, all those whirlpools of emotions were attacking her from all sides, and she was finding herself losing her mind.
When he finally started to open up to her, when he finally started to acknowledge them as us, when there was finally hope, at that point, she couldn't afford this, this misunderstanding, this miscommunication. It hurts, it does.
Already a year had passed, she didn't want that year back. She didn't want to live those moments again.
She had to speak with him.
She had to......
Not every time he could just disappear without uttering a word.
At least not this time.
A determined look was evident on her face.
