Chapter 2: His Night & Her Memories

At Ravi Lodge
Arjun sat down on the bed with the big size photo frame in his hand. He keeps looking at the pic without blinking his eyes, It was his routine to see her beautiful face before sleeping at night. Whenever he tries to close his eyes, the haunting memories of Roshini's loss are running like a film. He wished he had done something to save her when she was dying painfully. Alas, all he could do watch helplessly, while Roshni and their unborn baby were brutally snatched away from him forever. Tears rolled out of his eyes without any control just by thinking about that the dreadful day.
At night he doesn't have to think about his image, he would let the walls of his heart crumbles down at her feet. It's his own personal space where nobody could judge him, for being arrogant, rude, dominant, and a mean man. He is just a normal, unguarded man who is finding solace in his dead wife's memories.
He couldn't make himself stay at the house, where he used to live with Roshini. The empty walls of his home are sheer torture and all the good memories of the house were replaced with the haunting memories of Roshini's loss. It keeps on reminding that he couldn't save her and their unborn baby.
He started to see the room where he is staying now, it's a small, tidy room that consists of a single wooden cot, small wooden almirah, and a night table with lamp. So many people ready to work for him, but he left everything behind to become a police officer. But he never felt bad for that also, because he had everything he could ask for, a parent and a beautiful wife. Everything was picture perfect in his life, but one moment he lost everything. Though he has a parent in his life, he didn't remember when was the last time he had contacted them. His Mom and Father couldn't see his misery and the way he is destroying his own life so they left the country a year back.
Arjun sadly sighed and started to fondle the photo frame like, he is trying to feel her presence.
"Roshini" he mumbled her name under his breath.
"I'm feeling very lonely and the memories are scaring me. Please come back and tell me, it's all merely a dream. When I would wake up from deep slumber, you would be in my arms." he pleaded with her.
His mind knows that she is no more in this world, but the heart is not accepting the fact that they are not under the same sky. She came into his life like a dream and just vanished in the thin air. He is missing every little thing about her, her smile, her antics, her love, her fake anger, her concern, her care, and her presence in his life. She has been brutally murdered just because he loved her beyond anything. But they didn't know that he loves her till now and will be loving her till his last breath.
He tightly closed his eyes and hugged the photo frame close to his heart and let the rest of the tears rolled down on his cheeks. After some time he kissed the photo frame and carefully placed inside the Almirah.
He laid down on the bed, staring at the empty walls aimlessly, he tried to sleep by tossing and turning on the bed but the sleep never overtook him. It was around 4.25 in the morning his eyelids started to close and finally, sleep is embraced him for a few hours without any haunting nightmares.
Riya's Apartment
After an hour of a car ride with Sree and Chotu, she reached her apartment. But during that ride, she was quite silent. Even her friends tried to know the reason for the sudden mood change. All she could reply was tried nothing else.
Once the car stops at the apartment, she nearly jumped out of the car and ran towards her apartment.
Chotu and Sree are looking at her weirdly. But they thought to ask later and left the place.
Once she is inside her room, Tears started to roll down on her cheek without any control. She wanted to scream loudly, till the pain subsides down.
"Why it's me always at the end? What's my mistake of falling in love with him? I shouldn't feel this way at least not after knowing that he is married to her. It's wrong, the feelings have to disappear. I don't want to see him again in my life. Because I won't be able to control my feelings in front of him."
"Yes, it was me, who prayed every day to see a glimpse of him. But that was a past, where he didn't even know my existence."
"I cannot go through that pain in my life again. Does unsaid love could cause this much pain, even after so many years?"
She started to ask herself everything but never got answers, she slides down to the ground and cried out loud, where the empty walls staring at her.
She consoled herself after an hour of cry. To control her mind which is revolving around him, she went to take a cold shower.
After the bath, She is lying on her bed thinking everything to block Arjun's memories. She took her mobile phone and called her sister number without any second thought. Within a few mins, her sister Pallavi answered her call.
"Hello Riyu, How Are you" Pallavi exclaimed happily.
"Yeah, I'm good Didi, How is Jiju"
"He is doing good, how was your first-day fieldwork?."
Her question brought the memories of him again. Riya is silent for some time which is scaring her sister.
"Riyu, Can you hear me?, I asked about your first-day field job!"
She snapped out of her dreams. After being continually called by her name.
" Yes, it was okay Didi"
"Just okay, Are you Alright? Do you want to share something?"
" No, it's just that, I really miss you Didi and I miss Mom and Dad too!" she bites her lower lip to control her sob.
Silence prevailed for a few seconds on both the side.
"I will come over there. Just 18 to 20 hours of travel, I will ask Jiju to book a ticket."
" No No Please Didi, you don't come now, I will come to London soon and I want to sleep so say something"
"Stubborn never shares her problems with anyone. Still the same."Pallavi muttered under breath.
" Riyu, you said anything so whatever I'm gonna tell, you have to listen!".
"Didi, Anything except marriage"
"If you think, you have control over everything that is happening around you then sorry to say this but you are wasting your breath unnecessarily."
She waited for a few minutes to listen to her reply, but the line was silent, so she continued.
"Sometimes, it's good to let your feelings out of the system without any barriers or any second thoughts. Because emotions which were unsaid breaks more hearts rather than the emotions which was said."
"Riyu, I hope one day you understand how important to let out your feelings. I wish it happens sooner."
"Didi, Right now I wish you could have studied psychiatric instead of neurology" Riya giggled.
Both the girls laughed out loud. Pallavi knows her sister is trying to distract her so she didn't force her to say anything.
"Riyu, It's already 2.00 AM, you should sleep now. Otherwise, tomorrow you will reach the office late and you have to face the wrath of Rathod's anger. So Talk to you later. Good Night"
"Yes Didi, See you soon. Good Night "
They both winded off the call. Riya is keeping on thinking about her sister's words before sleep engulfing her.
Next Morning At Riya's Apartment
Riya woke up late in the morning and started to get ready for office. After 30 mins she was clad in a grey button-down shirt with black jeans. Before locking her house, She grabbed her handbag, iPhone, Brown diary, and a pink pen. She started to move outside of her apartment to board a private cab to ETF.
Commissioner's Office
Commissioner, Arjun, and Sammer is sitting inside the cabin. There is a tension in the air, like a battleground. Mukesh Sir is starting to speak, before both the officers jump into each other throats.
"Rathod, I have decided Arjun be a part of ETF as a second-in- command" He looked at Rathod to see any emotions.
Rathod fisted his hands to control his anger, he cannot say no to his superior. Though Arjun has anger issues when it comes to duty, he is the best. Maybe he would never accept this on his face, but this is the honest truth. Somewhere he still cares for Arjun, maybe this would bring an end to his never-ending transfers. What to do, he is still his best friend after all. He cannot tolerate Arjun's attitude, but it goes with him if his friend stays with him.
"Yes sir, I don't have any problem, but ask your officer if he does have any problem working under me?" Rathod said shocking both Arjun and Commissioner.
Mukesh looked at Arjun expecting an answer from him. Usual Arjun nodded his head.
Both Rathod and Commissioner feel like banging their heads on the wall, after expecting an answer from Arjun.
Arjun collected his appointment letter from the commissioner and started to move along with Rathod to the ETF.
At 9.30 AM ETF Premises
Sree and Chotu are sitting inside the conference room and bickering each other. At the same time, Riya entered the conference room with heavy breaths and slumped in the chair. Both her friends looked at her piteously.
"Oyee Ri, Thank your stars, Rathod sir hasn't come to the office yet" Chotu looked at her teasingly.
"Otherwise, Damn it would have eaten you alive for coming late to office" Sree exclaimed her.
Riya looked at them fearfully, both Sree and Chotu laughed after looking at Riya's scared expression.
She throws the file at them, which is lying on the table. Unfortunately, that file hits the man, who is coming along with the second-in-command of the ETF.
Arjun smirked at Rathod when the file hits Rathod's head."Nice Welcome to ETF Chief from his team"
Rathod furiously glared at Arjun.
" Damn it, What the hell is happening here?"Rathod shouted at the trio while rubbing his forehead.
Riya clasped her mouth with hands. Sree, and Chotu rooted in their place.
"Agaya Damn it. Ri and Chotu R.I.P for us! The lion is ready to attack his prey." Sree murmured to his friends.
The trio looked at Sameer and Arjun with bated breath. There is a confused look on their faces after seeing Arjun with Rathod.
"Rawte is going to be a second-in-command of the ETF," Rathod told them after seeing their expression.
" What" trio shouted after listening to their Chief.
Sameer and Arjun raised their eyebrows at them. Sree is the first one to speak after that shock treatment.
"We mean to say, What a surprise, nothing else sir" Chotu also nodded his head to agree with Sree.
Riya is really disturbed after listening to the piece of information.
Rathod understood the trio's thoughts and chuckle inwardly. Because they have to tolerate Rawte's rude and attitude henceforth.
"So if you guys are done with your picnic time, Can you prepare a report for Yesterday's case?" Rathod asked sarcastically.
" Yes Sir" they meekly uttered without any option.
Rathod left for his cabin. Arjun looks at the trio weirdly especially Riya behaviour from the moment he entered the room.
"Mad people " he mumbled and left for his cabin.
Once Arjun was out of her sight, in the pretext of getting coffee Riya moved to the pantry.
" God Ji, What will I do now? How I can ignore him when he is in front of me? It's getting overboard now, I have to do something before it goes out of my hands." She started to think while pacing around the pantry.
But she forgot that everything in the universe happens for a reason. She has to wait for the right time to get everything in her life.
