PART ONE
It had been a year since he left leaving no traces of him behind.
A year to Sikandar being punished.
A year to Justice being served to Roshni.
A year to Arjun's resignation.
A year to Sameer's regret.
A year to a major missing in their lives, especially hers.
Her phone buzzed bringing her out of her thoughts. She hit the button, and her eyes immediately focused on the message that appeared on the screen.
It was Shree telling her to report to the airport tomorrow at precisely seven in the morning.
For a case, they were all flying to Delhi.
With an "Okay," she answered him. It was pretty late. Few staff members were working in their cabinets. Gathering her belongings, she headed for the door.
Her eyes involuntarily traveled toward the closed door of the certain someone's office. The cabin had been vacant for a year.
Her eyes were filled with a reel-like display of all the memories from the past.
She inhaled deeply before moving forward, but not before giving that closed glass door one last glance.

Even after the long flight, they all were present at the Police headquarters.
"There is open supply of drugs in that club."
Shree said.
"That club is well-known for its illicit activities, and although the police had arrested many spoilt brats, they were always able to escape because of their powerful family background."
Riya stated.
"Armaan was last seen in that club before his flight to Mumbai."
Rathore referred Armaan Malhotra, the victim, who was killed on his way home from Mumbai airport.
His bag contained drugs, and it was discovered that those drugs were only available in that club.
"That club had already been raided by my officers, Sir. I am sure they must be on their way back."
Inspector Veer stated.
He had been working with the Dehli police for three years and was present to help the ETF with this case.
"Good."
Rathore nodded in appreciation.
___________________________
He glanced at the handcuffs around his wrists and then at the police officers, who did not appear to be interested in listening to him.
Like seriously folks! Did they think he was high on drugs? How did they come to believe that he was a drug dealer, user, or something else? Just have a look at his handsome face Yar. Huh!!!
He shook his head and looked around.
Following a few minutes, he found himself in the interrogation room facing an officer who had been acting similarly, "not believing his words and labeling him a spoiled brat."
Man, what the heck!
"Spill the beans."
The statement made him roll his eyes.
This bunch of officers were wasting his time and he was not happy about that.
"How many times have I had to repeat myself?"
There was obvious irritation in his voice.
A sense of rage passed through Rathore's veins at the attitude he was witnessing.
He squinted his eyes at the boy seated in front of him who was looking around with an uninterested look on his face and displeasure in his eyes.
"You will not have to repeat yourself if you speak the truth."
With a composed demeanor, Rathore leaned forward and placed his hands on the table.
"Really?"
An irksome grin was dancing across his lips as he lifted an eyebrow.
Chotu, Riya, and Shree exchanged glances. That attitude, though, made Rathore angry again.
No doubt it had been a year since someone had managed to irk him to such a level. Till now this honor was limited to ACP Arjun Suryakant Rawte but this boy who seemed in his twenties had managed to test his patience to a certain level.
The other three were also troubled by this boy's attitude, which kept reminding them of a certain person who had seemingly disappeared from their lives and left a void that was not ready to be filled, particularly in the life of one particular girl.
She looked at that boy who was dressed in blue jeans and a white shirt, his folded sleeves and demeanor resembling certain someone and that was disturbing her.
Not just her, but every individual in the room was disturbed by it as well.
"What were you doing at that club? Don't you know that club is famous for illegal activities?"
Rathore's voice echoed around pulling everyone out of their thoughts.
He shot him a frustrated glance.
"So, what does that prove?"
He threw a question at Rathore in return.
"That can prove many things."
Rathore looked directly at him and spoke in a firm tone.
"That absolutely can Officer but your 'can' cannot prove me guilty. Evidence is required for that purpose."
His words were enough to surprise the four figures who were listening to him.
He was undoubtedly brilliant and impressive. Maybe that was the reason he was making them think of a specific person.
"And......."
His voice cut through their train of thought.
They saw him leaning forward and saying his next words calmly,
"I already had told you I went there to deliver an order. I don't think so I need to explain myself further, ye bat aap log samjhe ya samjhaon."
His last words were enough to pull the floor beneath their feet.
However, he calmly leaned back to the chair, unaware of the bomb he had dropped on them.
"Wh....what....what did you say?"
Rathore asked abruptly.
Even though he did not want to repeat himself, he became perplexed after seeing Rathore's face.
This officer, who just a moment ago had been growing irate with him, was now staring at him expectantly, waiting for an answer.
Weirdo......
He paused to reflect, then spoke again.
"I said, I went there to deliver an order."
"After that....."
Before Rathore could say anything he heard the girl's voice. Yeah, the dimple girl.
He turned to face her, who had intense emotions on her face, as though her life depended on what he said.
He glanced over at the two figures behind that girl. The one with specks and the other with a giant body.
With desperate expressions on their faces, they were both staring at him.
They all were weird.
That's what he concluded by their looks.
"After that, I said, I don't think so I need to explain myself further."
He spoke after thinking.
"No, after that...."
The person in the specks spoke this time, and the others supported him by nodding their heads.
How absurd! Were they all crazy? Was it an interrogation room or a classroom where he had to repeat his lesson again & again?
"That's exactly what I said earlier & after."
Now he was getting annoyed.
"No, you said something else."
Rathore interrupted.
"You know what Officer. Do me a favor. Please throw me behind the bars. I have had enough of you guys."
He uttered these words with so much annoyance.
"Such a school kid behavior. Who would say you guys are well-established police officers?"
He expressed disappointment in his words.
They all were startled at his remark but what caught their attention was that even the way he chastises others is reminiscent of a particular entity.
"What is your name?"
Rathore asked, breathing deeply and gathering his thoughts.
This boy was giving him a tough time. His cop-like mannerisms had to hold, no matter what.
"Don't you think that question should be asked earliest, at the start of your interrogation?"
Damn, this boy!!!
"Listen you little boy, I am the one who will choose what questions to ask now and later. You better understand that."
Rathore said smirking.
"Then you should recheck your line of questioning."
He stated casually giving him a bored look viping off the smirk from Rathore's lips.
Rathore cast a sidelong glance at the other three, who were trying not to laugh. He glared at them, gritting his teeth.
A constable just happened to walk into the room.
"Sir, Adarsh's lawyer is here with the bail papers."
"Now who is this Adarsh?"
Across the room rang Rathore's irritated voice.
"Well Officer, it's me."
The younger one in the room raised his hand to gain their attention.
So, his name is Adarsh. Nice name though.
"The investigation has not ended yet."
Rathore noticed him getting up and ready to go, so he spoke up.
"Speak with my attorney."
Adarsh gave him a phony smile and went outside while rolling his eyes.
Rathore strode outside with an angry gait as Shree, Chotu, and Riya trailed after him shrugging their shoulders.

Adarsh noticed that Ayush, his closest friend, was standing with Karan Mehra, a lawyer by trade and a friend of his elder brother.
Rathore stopped in his tracks along with the other three as soon as he saw Karan Mehra.
He squinted his eyes at him. He was sure he had seen him somewhere, but he could not recall.
Karan glanced at him once then again immersed himself in the paperwork.
On the other hand, Ayush took his steps towards Adarsh who was looking around to find his elder brother who was nowhere to be seen.
Oh, God!!! Is he angry with him?
As soon as he thought of this, he became anxious.
"Bhai is outside."
Ayush whispered in his ear, sensing the worry on his best friend's face.
"Is he angry?"
He inquired.
The only thing he couldn't afford was to offend his elder brother.
"He was, but I explained him everything. I told him it was our cafe's order and you were just helping my dad by delivering the order due to staff shortage."
Adarsh sensed guilt in Ayush's voice.
As though to inquire as to what transpired, he arched an eyebrow at him.
"I am sorry Yar. It happened because of me. I should have checked the place before sending you the address."
"It's okay you idiot. It's not a big deal."
Adarsh encircled his arm around his neck.
"Let's go boys."
Karan cut them off and started to move out. They both went after him.
Rathore approached Inspector Veer with a question.
"When you are giving out bail like candy, how are we supposed to conduct an investigation?"
"Sir that boy was innocent. He was there to deliver an order. His lawyer had all the proofs."
Rathore shook his head in response to his explanation.
____________________________
He saw his elder brother standing with crossed arms leaning his back on the car. Adarsh almost ran towards him. Even though Ayush had assured him that everything had already been discussed, he was still afraid of his reaction.
"Bhai....."
He was hesitant for a moment, but it was only for a few seconds because his brother embraced him tightly.
Feeling secure in that shielded embrace, all of his fears evaporated in the air.
"You are offended?"
He withdrew from the hug after Adarsh asked.
"Have you done anything wrong?"
Raising an eyebrow, he asked, to which Adarsh instantly shook his head negatively.
"So, you idiot, why would I be offended?"
He smacked his head in jest.
Karan & Ayush smiled at the duo.
"But don't you think so you should have been careful. You should not have ended at that place."
"Sorry Bhai....."
It took a second for Adarsh to accept his mistake.
Rathore, who had just emerged from the police headquarters with the other three, heard this apology.
The boy, who had appeared adamant in the interrogation room was now acting like a grown-up.
This sight surprised Rathore.
His gaze quickly shifted to the person in front of Adarsh, who had his back to them, but he looked incredibly familiar.
Chotu and Shree exchanged puzzled looks with one another as well.
The girl beside them appeared stunned, though. Her gaze lingered on him. She knew who he was without even having to look at his face. Her heart was enough to tell her who was he.
Her feet started to involuntarily move in his direction. Tears welled up in her eyes, making it difficult to see.
While talking to Adarsh he felt something unusual around him. Something that, in the last year, he had not felt.
He spun around in a blink and.....
It was unexpected for him to see her standing before him.
.
.
.
.
"Arjun Sir."
Tears trickled down her cheeks as she whispered, and then she did something unexpected.
Adarsh was so struck by what he was seeing that he felt like falling. A girl, literally a girl, hugging his brother, and his brother was standing still.
He was horrified to see the giant one and the one in specks joining the hug. The man with the mustache caught his eye; it appeared that he was keen to join as well.
What the heck!!! Are they all insane?
He looked at his brother who was momentarily startled.
Are they trying to crush his brother?
His instincts as a protective brother took over.
He instantly pulled his brother out of the hug and stood in front of him.
Shree & Chotu were still trying to cling to Arjun. However, Riya stepped back feeling embarrassed at her jerk reaction.
Arjun was speechless though.
"What are you guys trying to do?"
Adarsh squinted his eyes at them.
"I had serious doubts about how you guys got to be police officers."
How adorable! This younger version of their Arjun sir.
Chotu and Shree glanced at each other before engulfing him in a bone-crushing hug.
"Bhaiii....."
Shaking Arjun out of his reverie, Adarsh nearly yelled.
"Shree, Chotu, what are you doing?"
Arjun reprimanded.
They pulled away, giving him a sheepish smile. Their antiques caused Arjun to shake his head negatively.
"Bhai, they are all crazy, I swear to you."
Reaching for Arjun's arm, Adarsh spoke.
"Adi, they are ETF officers."
He was unsure about how to introduce them. He was pretty surprised to see them there.
"ETF officers? Your former teammates?"
He narrowed his eyes at Arjun who nodded in return and the next moment solely went into the introduction.
Adarsh was left wanting more by ACP Sameer Rathore and Riya Mukherjee's introduction.
The reason was the range of emotions on their faces. It went beyond simply being happy to see a teammate after a long absence.
He was not sure what it was, but he could bet he sensed regret, loss, and sorrow on their faces.
Seeking an answer, he glanced at Karan. After all, he was his brother's best buddy. Although he must have been aware of the cause, the question was why would he spill the beans?
That's why Karan royally ignored his questioning gaze.
As though he is incapable of finding it on his own. Anything is accessible to the legendary Adarsh Vijaykant Rawte.
He smirked at the thought that crossed his mind.
"Tomorrow is my birthday bash."
Everyone turned to look at Adarsh when he spoke up out of the blue.
Like, what to interpret from this statement?
"Ayush has arranged a little party for me."
He wrapped his arm around Ayush's shoulder who was not even aware that he had set up the party.
"Right, Ayush???"
He stressed what he said.
"Ye...yeah yeah, right!!!"
Ayush was perplexed. He had no choice but to acknowledge his best friend's words, even though he had no idea what was going through his mind.
"So you all are invited."
He said.
"They are here for a case. No need to disturb them, Adi."
It was Arjun who spoke up.
Riya gave him a dejected glance. He was unwilling to meet them. That is what she took from his words.
Her expressions didn't go unnoticed by Adarsh.
"But Bhai it's a late night party. They can manage."
He refused to back down and glared at Ayush who also spoke up instantly.
"Yes, Arjun Bhai..... They can manage."
With a narrowed gaze, Arjun looked at both of them, who immediately began to look everywhere but not at him.
"Yeah Rawte, we can manage."
Feeling Shree & Chotu's constant pleading stares on his face, Rathore finally spoke up.
Shree & Chotu exclaimed in joy and hugged each other.
Adarsh & Ayush looked at each other and muttered, "Typical school kids' behavior."
So the plan was settled. Budding a goodbye to each other they marched towards their vehicles.
Karan settled into the driver's seat. Adarsh and Ayush, however, snatched up the back seats.
With one final glance at his teammates, Arjun opened the passenger seat's door.
His heart was warmed by the joy on Shree and Chotu's faces. The regret on Rathore's face was something that he didn't want to address and the emotions on Riya's face.......
At this thought, his gaze instinctively paused on her.
Yeah, the emotions on her face......
He could have sworn he felt the same way a year earlier and made the decision to go. Seeing her fall hard for him was too much for him to bear.
He had assumed that his disappearance would give her a reason to move on, but he was wrong.
Today after a year he could bet this dimple girl was still stuck at one place.
A glimmer of guilt appeared in his heart.
He turned his face and grabbed his seat. In a matter of seconds, the car was on its way after Karan turned it on.
He could see her going far & far in the rearview mirror.
The distance that was growing with every passing second made his heart heavy.
He leaned back, placed his head on the headrest, and closed his eyes.
Her hurtful gaze had caused an inner storm in him for reasons he could not fathom.
Upon glancing at his brother's side profile, Adarsh's mind instantly began formulating a plan.
