History is a testimonial of the fact that many Bollywood movies have propelled into popularity simply because of their stellar soundtracks. After all, it is not possible to imagine a Bollywood movie without songs. While albums of movies like Ek Villain (2014), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Sholay (1975) have been iconic for their mesmerising songs, there are also a number of albums which come with a title track, and many of these stay with us through the years. For the uninitiated, title tracks are those songs which contain the title of the movie as a sentence in the song, and their titles are the same as that of the movie. In this edition of Yo Mr DJ!, we at BollyCurry explore some of the most iconic title tracks that have stayed with us all this time.

"Kabhie Kabhie" - Kabhie Kabhie

Composed by the legendary music director Khayyam, Kabhie Kabhie's melodious title track is still remembered by one and all for its dulcet tunes and beautiful execution. The song went on to have two versions, the male version which was sung by the versatile singer Mukesh, while the duet version was voiced by both Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar. Despite releasing in 1976, "Kabhie Kabhie" remains till date one of the most popular songs of the 70s.

"Yaadon Ki Baarat" - Yaadon Ki Baarat

RD Burman is one of the most acclaimed and talented music composers India has ever produced. Burman has composed some of the most iconic tracks of Bollywood, including the title track of the evergreen film Yaadon Ki Baarat. Much like the other films of that time, Yaadon Ki Baarat's title track also had two versions; a male version, voiced by Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar, and a female version voiced by Lata Mangeshkar, Padmini Kolhapure, and Sushma Sreshta. Marjooh Sultanpuri's poignant lyrics with Burman's composition catapulted this song into instant popularity and it remains one of the most beautiful songs of its times.

"Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" - Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

The only movie which starred Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in full-fledged roles opposite each other, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is one of Bollywood's most acclaimed movies. The soundtrack of this movie was composed by the talented Ismail Darbar and the title track was sung by Kavitha Krishnamurthy, Dominique Cerejo and Mohammed Salamat. It went on to become a huge success in its times and is often heard on the radio and popular playlists.

"Kal Ho Naa Ho" - Kal Ho Naa Ho

Arguably one of the most popular Bollywood soundtracks in the world, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's National Award winning song list comprised of some of the most iconic tracks, including the timeless and ethereal title track, "Kal Ho Naa Ho". Picturised on the entire cast of the movie with Sonu Niigam's melodious vocals voicing Javed Akhtar's heart-warming lyrics, the song remains till date one of the most beautiful Bollywood tracks ever composed. Like many other popular songs, "Kal Ho Naa Ho" too has a sad version to it, sung by Sonu Niigam, Alka Yagnik, and Richa Sharma. Both versions of the song went on to become huge hits, and are still a popular favorite amongst the youth of today.

"Ishaqzaade" - Ishaqzaade

One of the best albums of 2012, Ishaqzaade's soundtrack remains one of Amit Trivedi's most successful albums till date. While "Pareshaan" went on to become a rage, catapulting Shalmali Kholgade into instant stardom, it was the soft and mesmerising title track, "Ishaqzaade", that won everyone's hearts. With Javed Ali and Shreya Ghoshal's melodious voice, the song has truly stayed in the hearts and minds of every listener through the years.

While these were some of the most popular and timeless title tracks of Bollywood over the years, there are many others which couldn't be covered in this article for obvious reasons. Some of the more admirable tracks also include the title tracks of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, and Amar Akbar Anthony.
