Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has announced his retirement from directing films. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, he confirmed that although he will continue to produce the upcoming superhero film Krrish 4, which stars his son Hrithik Roshan, under his banner Filmkraft Productions, he has decided to step down from his directing duties.

I don't think so I'll be directing any further. But I'll surely be announcing Krrish 4 very soon,” Rakesh confirmed. Earlier this year, Hrithik's Bang Bang, War, and Fighter director Siddharth Anand reposted a fan's picture of Hrithik in the Krrish costume with the caption, “He's coming back,” on his X handle and wrote, “Yup he is,” leading fans to speculate whether he's taking over the director's chair in the Krrish franchise from Rakesh Roshan.

Rakesh Roshan launched the Krrish franchise with the sci-fi film Koi Mil Gaya in 2003, which was followed by Krrish in 2006, and Krrish 3 in 2013. Hrithik Roshan played both Rohit and his son Krishna, aka Krrish, throughout the series. In the first film, Preity Zinta starred opposite Hrithik, while Priyanka Chopra took on the lead role in the subsequent Krrish instalments. The franchise also featured Rekha in the first two films, Naseeruddin Shah in Krrish 2, and Vivek Oberoi and Kangana Ranaut in Krrish 3.

As Rakesh Roshan steps down from directing, he remains actively involved in the industry as a producer. He plans to re-release several of his iconic films, beginning with the 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun, which will be available in cinemas once again this Friday, 22nd November. "Not every film works, but Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai will also be completing 25 years in January 2025. Karan Arjun was also released in January, but I didn’t want the two films to clash, so I moved this re-release to an earlier date. There are also many films scheduled for release in January," Rakesh explained during the interview. He also expressed plans to re-release his 1988 revenge drama Khoon Bhari Maang, starring Rekha and Kabir Bedi.
