Darlings and Double XL
Well this year hasn't been all roses for the Hindi film industry. While there were few blockbuster hits, many flops and a few average ones too. We have now listed down 5 films of 2022 which had some commendable social message with entertainment as well.
Darlings
Darlings is a social message that is delivered in a more metaphorically neutral way that more clearly illustrates the facts of this societal illness. It provides light on victim blaming, a rather prevalent and common phenomenon linked to the abuse. No excuse, whether workplace irritation, the urge to vent, or drug misuse, can justify a crime of this nature. While Vijay Verma ad Alia Bhatt's perfomance won accolades from all quarters.
Jayeshbhai Jordaar
Jayeshbhai Jordaar makes a mark on its own about 'equality', as it spreads awareness about pre-natal sex determination and convince the Indian patriarchal system that it is absolutely normal to have a girl child. The film shed light on female infanticide, but it raises a lot of other difficulties as well. Gender equality, gender norms, misogyny, domestic abuse, backwards rural laws, child marriage, loveless unions, the prohibition of physical intimacy, etc. While this narrative was pulled off brilliantly by Boman Irani, Ranveer Singh and Shalini Pandey.
Doctor G
The movie "Doctor G" is not afraid to let its audience know that the plot is about a male gynaecologist in the deeply conservative, traditional India. It is a fresh take at another societal dilemma of how to tackle the field of gynaecology by the men in it and the women that require their services. Ayushmann Khurrana does his job right even this time with along with Shefali Shah and Rakul Preet Singh.
Janhit Mein Jaari
Janhit Mein Jaari aims at this very statement, “Mardon ke liye shayad ye sirf ek zaroorat hai, par hum auraton ke liye ye zaroori hai,The film has a spectacular message, the message about safe sexual intercourse. sheds light on the importance of contraceptives, a topic that till today is associated with stigma. The movie aims to craft a narrative and give new insights onto a least discussed issue that is the use of contraceptives. Nushratt Bharuccha steals the light as she flawlessly delivers the jist of the film.
Double XL
It's a movie that naively expects praise for telling a forward-thinking, well-intentioned tale. While Double XL aims to humanise these ladies and let us see them for who they are rather than just for their size, all it seems to do is have them discuss it. Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi amazed us all with their weight gain for the film.
