Shayane shu Rambha
Karya shu daasi
Priya dharm patni"
These are the lines that describe the various 'avtars' of a wife! It says that when she feeds her husband, her affection and dedication should be like a mother. In bed, her playfulness should be like that of Rambha, the most amorous beauty in heaven. And when fulfilling her responsibilities at home, she should be the best maid. Starting from the Vedic to the recent updated tech age women, all have been proving themselves in various sectors of work. Despite that men still think about women in the same old way. But today's women do not like to be assessed in that way. It's especially true with ladies from the tinsel town. Today they have challenged the world and entertained the viewers with roles ranging from simple to much complex ones.
Come 8th March, as the whole world celebrates Women's Day, we applaud the efforts of women in the tinsel town who deserve to be honored. Here we have opinions of few successful women who feel proud to be called women.
Bipasha Basu:
Q.: Where do you see women in Bollywood?
A.: Today's Bollywood is much better for women. The scenario was completely different even 5 years ago, when women were seen just as very modern. Their position in society was really derogatory. But now they get total support from all people around. I am not a feminist, but still I can encourage the change. A lady can easily strike a balance between her home and the working place. But men turn little biased in these cases. They always think about themselves only.
Q.: Do you think that a time will come when heroes and heroines will get equal honor in Bollywood?
A.: Never. It actually depends on the audience and they still buy tickets to watch heroes. That's why heroes demand more money than heroines. I have witnessed that only women come to the theater to see if the film is women centric. Its okay with films of small budget, but the big budgeted films always run in loss. This is a sad picture, but this is the truth!!
Neetu Chandra:
Q.: Where do you see women in Bollywood?
A.: No film can be made without women. At least that's where I can see women in Bollywood.
Q.: Do you think that the time will come when heroes and heroines will get equal honor in Bollywood?
A.: I guess it's still not the time for equality between heroes and heroines in this industry. But time will change very soon. The way this industry is turning towards experimentation, there will soon come a time when women centric films will be bigger hits.
Sonali Kulkarni:
Q.: Where do you see women in Bollywood?
A.: I don't believe in drawing a line between men and women. I believe in human beings. I think nothing would be worse for me than thinking about distinguished places for men and women in this century.
Q.: Do you think that the time will come when heroes and heroines will get equal honor in Bollywood?
A.: Please watch three films – 'Chini Kum', 'Jodha Akbar' and 'Metro'. You will find women characters as strong as men in all these films. And I think the dissimilarity of payment between men and women will also be over soon. We have heroines like Katrina Kaif, Preity Zinta and Aishwarya Rai who are making the process even faster. All of them are signing better and big budgeted movies with big banners. Even I am also happy as I have signed few of those kind of movies. And I think it is better that we don't underestimate ourselves by going into comparison with others.
Shefali Shah:
Q.: Where do you see women in Bollywood?
A.: To be very frank, I think there can be very few movies without women. As in real life the togetherness of men and women is an undisputable truth, the same is true in films.
Q.: Do you think that the time will come when heroes and heroines will get equal honor in Bollywood?
A.: I think they both are sharing the same position in Bollywood. As far as characters and acting is concerned that similarity is very visible. But when matters come to paymen,t we find actors are much ahead of actresses. I hope there will soon come a time when actresses will get the same amount as actors.
Women of 21st century maybe having a good time in Bollywood, but they believe that their position in the industry still requires improvement. And they do believe they will achieve it, too. And we believe the creator of lives in this world can create their own world in the industry very easily.
