Actors turning politicians is not a novel thing which may get one excited as there have been numerous actors from Bollywood who have gone ahead and tried their hand at politics. From the likes of Shatrughan Sinha to Govinda, several have been a part of politics.
But, when was the last time you heard about a TV actor becoming a politician? Ahm, I am guessing, none. Of course, we are not even thinking about Rakhi Sawant; she is an anomaly. TV actors becoming politicians is rarer than being rare. But, let me take you through one of the rarest of co-incidences that might surprise you.
The following actors who played the lead characters in two of India's biggest epics, Ramayan' and Mahabharat' actually went on to became politicians. Yes! That is right..
Arun Govil (Lord Rama in Ramayan) lost the Lok Sabha elections
Yes, Indian television's first ever Lord Ram, actor Arun Govil tried his hand at politics, where he contested for the Lok Sabha elections in late 1980s, however lost it later. Guess, the niceties of Lord Rama didn't go down too well in the political world.
Arvind Trivedi (Raavan in Ramayan) won the Lok Sabha elections
I mean, it's way too obvious, isn't it? Where goes Ram, Raavan follows to win and conquer. Ironically, Raavan may be defeated by Ram in Ramayan, but actor Arvind Trivedi who played Raavan won the Lok Sabha elections for Member of Parliament (MP) from Sabarkatha district in 1991 as a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate. We love these ironies, don't we?
Deepika Chikalia (Sita in Ramayan) won the Lok Sabha elections
Goddess Sita, of course, literally followed' Lord Rama everywhere. So why not politics, too? Actress Deepika Chikalia, who played Sita won the Lok Sabha elections for MP from Baroda constituency in 1991 as a BJP candidate. Women power, indeed..!
Dara Singh (Lord Hanuman in Ramayan) was a nominated member of Rajya Sabha and elected member of Jat Mahasabha
Completing the amazing trio, Lord Hanuman too joined the world of politics following the footsteps of Lord Ram (Arun Govil) and Sita (Deepika Chikalia). Hanuman was devoted to Ram and had blind faith in him and political world wasn't much different, we are sure. India's super man, Dara Singh who played Hanuman joined politics and was a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha and also an elected member of jat Mahasabha. Jai Shri Ram!
Nitish Bharadwaj (Lord Krishna in Mahabharat) was a Member of Parliament
After a unanimous domination by Ramayan' characters in this list, here comes a Mahabharat' character. And who can be better than Lord Krishna, who was the most important link in one of the biggest epic sagas of India, to give competition to others. Actor Nitish Bharadwaj who played Lord Krishna in B R Chopra's saga, Mahabharat' was elected to Lok Sabha as an MP as a BJP candidate.
It seems, these actors took their characters and the genre too seriously. However, this amazing coincidence was certainly an eye-opening surprise. Politics and epic sagas always go hand-in-hand.

The SOTY also showed the lead actors sharing cigarette on screen. Such scenes send wrong messages to teenagers who consider these actors as role model.

Nice article. Even though I haven't watch all these films, I read a lot about films glorifying smoking habit showing it as glamorous , high classy etc. while they put a note about " smoking isn't good for Heath " viewers won't notice that, so the wrong message will certainly be sent. Smoking not only cause lung cancer, also increases the risk of over dozen of other cancers like stomac cancer ( this may be the dangerous one if Alchol also plays a part ) kidney , pancreas , ovarien and many more. And the recent recherches proves smoking also increase the possibility of bre*** cancer. So give up smoking and save lives
