When Dimple Kapadia revealed how her dreams were shattered after marrying Rajesh Khanna: 'Gana bhi nahi hua..'

Dimple Kapadia, who married yesteryear superstar Rajesh Khanna, who was then 31 year old, at the age of 15, had once recalled how she thought that the actor would hold her hands and sing songs to her just like he did with his costars in the films and how, when they tied the knot and it did not happen, her dreams were shattered.

In an earlier conversation with FICCI Flo Jaipur Chapter, the actress recalled being awestruck by the superstar when she was seated next to him in a flight to Ahmdebad. ''We were going to Ahmedabad on a private flight for a function. He sat next to me. I was looking at him. Rajesh Khanna, I mean come on guys, give me a break. I very chalaakly told him, ‘Wahan toh bohot crowd hoga, bheed hogi. Aap mera haath pakdoge na? He said, ‘Haan bilkul.’ I replied, ‘Hamesha ke liye? And the rest is history. It happened,” Dimple revealed.

Further, recalling how her dreams shattered after tying the knot with the superstar and how she thought that he would sing songs to her just like the movies. The actress said, ''I swear I am not lying, because I was so young. And there was such an impact of the movies. Toh jab mountains pe pohanche aur gaana bhi nahi hua, hawa bhi nahi chali toh meri toh haalat kharab ho gayi because my dream was shattered. Because I seriously believed it. I mean how dumb can you get? But well that was me.''

However, the actress parted ways with late Rajesh Khanna more than a decade later and made a comeback onscreen. The actor's films began failing at the box office and as a result of the same, unable to cope up with the failure, his relationship with wife Dimple started hitting rock bottom. In one of her interviews with late Pritish Nandy, the actress called marrying Rajesh Khanna a mistake and said, ''I think we were two very different kind of people. And I was probably very young to understand what was happening to this man who was a superstar.''

For the uninformed, Rajesh Khanna passed away at the age of 69 on the 18th of July, 2012.
