Ulajh Box Office Collections Day 1: Janhvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah's Thriller Opens with Rs 1 Crore

Janhvi Kapoor’s latest thriller drama, Ulajh, directed by Sudhanshu Saria, embarked on its theatrical journey with a modest start, earning Rs 1 crore on its opening day. The film, featuring Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Meiyan Chang, and Rajesh Tailang, faced a tepid reception at the box office.

Released across 750 screens in India, Ulajh encountered stiff competition from Ajay Devgn’s Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, while last week’s releases continued to draw crowds. This competitive landscape, combined with some negative factors, contributed to the film's lackluster opening. The movie’s failure to attract a significant audience and its low box office collection suggest it struggled to engage viewers.

The storyline of Ulajh, which follows Suhana Bhatia (played by Janhvi Kapoor), an Indian Foreign Services (IFS) Officer appointed as the Deputy High Commissioner of India in London, is intriguing. However, the film’s slow start indicates it did not manage to create enough buzz. Suhana’s professional and personal challenges, particularly her relationship with Nakul (Gulshan Devaiah), a Michelin Star chef, seemed to have failed to captivate the audience

Despite securing 750 screens, Ulajh had a subdued debut, reflecting its inability to make a strong impact. The film also faced negative feedback, with some criticizing its execution and reception, which did not help in drawing the audience to theaters. The film’s opening numbers are disappointing, especially when compared to Janhvi Kapoor’s previous releases. Her last film, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, benefited from Cinema Lovers Day and achieved a strong opening of Rs 6.75 crore, while Ulajh landed among her lower openers. It even trails behind her 2021 film Roohi, which had an opening of Rs 2.73 crore.

Produced by Junglee Pictures, Ulajh might have a chance to improve if it garners positive word of mouth. However, its current performance indicates that it has a challenging road ahead. As the story of Suhana Bhatia unfolds, it remains to be seen how Ulajh will perform in the coming days.
