The film 'Vedaa', which starred John Abraham, Sharvri Wagh and Abhishek Banerjee in pivotal roles despite underperforming at the box office, received critical acclaim for its power-packed performances. The film has a few songs, and one of them was 'Mummy Ji', filmed on Mouni Roy. The singer of the song Prajakta Shukre recently got into an exclusive conversation with India Forums and shared her views on the song, the process and many other things.

How was it being a part of the song Mummy Ji?

Being part of ‘Mummy Ji’ was an incredible experience! I believe its success is largely due to Manan Bhardwaj’s brilliant production and catchy composition. The hook line, ‘Kiya karaya ho gaya barbaad,’ just sticks in your mind. It’s a song full of quirky fun, and working on it was a joy. Manan’s vision made sure everything came together perfectly, from the vocals to the final cut.

Do you feel such item numbers are necessary for a film to be termed ‘massy’?

While I wouldn’t say item numbers are ‘necessary,’ they certainly bring a certain energy and mass appeal to films. A song like ‘Mummy Ji’ has a universal fun factor, and its upbeat nature contributes to the overall vibe of a movie. It adds that ‘massy’ touch that many audiences love, but it’s important that the song fits the film’s tone.

Do you envision any actress when you are in the process of making the song, and think that yes, she can be perfect for it? Have you done it before and did Mouni justify the song?

There are times when I picture a particular actress while working on a song, and I did feel Mouni Roy would be perfect for ‘Mummy Ji.’ She’s got that charm, and she brought her sizzling energy to the video, which elevated the entire experience. I think she justified the song completely!

Did you get any negative comments on the lyrics of the song by anyone?

Thankfully, the response to ‘Mummy Ji’ has been overwhelmingly positive! The lyrics are quirky and fun, and people seem to love them. We haven’t faced much criticism—on the contrary, the song has been trending since its release, and seeing people make reels and dance to it has been incredible!.

The film 'Vedaa' hit the theatres on 15th August and received mixed reviews.
