Shefali Shah: Human has been extremely consuming and exhausting; it is a draining script and complicated part

Human is a medical thriller based on Human drug trials in India. The series boasts of an absolute stellar cast headlined by National award winning actor Shefali Shah and versatile actor Kirti Kulhari along with Vishal Jethwa, Ram Kapoor, Seema Biswas, Aditya Srivastava and Mohan Agashe amongst others. The suspense thriller, Human, unravels unexpected secrets of the world of medicines and its effect on people with a gripping tale of murder, mystery, lust, and manipulation.

As the show is just two days away from release, India Forums got an opportunity to speak to Shefali aka Dr. Gauri Nath about the show, the process of the show, and some more. In what was an absolute honour, she had quite the insights to give after all. Read the conversation here.

First things first, how overwhelmed are you with all the love coming your way and seeing this is the recognition awaited you after all tis time?

I feel blessed, I feel lucky, I get a sense of thank god, finally, I am doing the kind of work I aspire and wanted to do, the wait has paid off; people are writing roles for me, casting me in lead roles, parallel lead roles. I feel blessed and lucky. 

How has the journey for you been?

Human has been extremely consuming and exhausting. Any series gets exhausting because you have to keep in mind 8 hours of script, and everything that has happened. In Human, every minute something happens and that is unexpected, to keep everything in your mind was a lot. Gauri Nath is a character I have not played, not met, not heard or seen in real life and she's unpredictable. There was no pattern to her, every time, she would surprise me. Emotionally also, it is a very draining script. Mentally, it is a complicated script and a complicated part.

You have Kirti along with you, how was it working with her and what was the energy on sets like?

An absolute pleasure. I feed off my co-actors and when you're working with such incredible actors, it makes me richer and adds to my character. I am so glad I could share screen space with Kirti and I admire her tremendously and it was fun. Even when there were heavy sequences, together, we could chat and laugh, otherwise the show is overbearing. We have a fantastic and extremely talented cast. It was a treat to work with such incredible actors and amazing people.

There's so much happening, it gets difficult to keep a track of everything. What is the process of keeping up for you?

It was exactly the same, there is so much happening and I have a way of doing things. I work on the script, I make my notes and one of the things on sets is don't waste sides on me, so it's a standing instruction to my ADs and I will only refer to my script because I have notes. You know how you write pointers before your exam for revision and it would give you a gist of everything and that's how I would write down short synopsis of pointers of the entire episode, so every time I would be doing the scene (even if it's episode 8), I would start from episode one because you need to know the trajectory of what has happened so that is what I do.
