In the glittering realm of Bollywood, few collaborations shine as brightly as that of Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan. The duo, whose friendship blossomed more than 28 years ago during the iconic film "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge" (DDLJ), recently took a nostalgic journey back to the roots of their camaraderie.
In a candid interview on Galatta Plus, Karan Johar revealed the tale of how he found himself entwined with DDLJ and, consequently, with SRK. Despite being the son of a film producer, KJo opted out of film school, and it was Aditya Chopra who played a pivotal role in steering him toward the world of cinema. Hired as an assistant director for DDLJ, Karan's first task was a unique one – scouring boxes of costumes from the late Sridevi starrer "Chandni" to find the perfect outfit for none other than Shah Rukh Khan.
Recalling his first encounter with SRK, Karan shared, "You should wear tight jeans; your body shape would look better in tighter jeans. You should show your Adam's apple because girls think it is very attractive." SRK's reaction? He promptly summoned Aditya Chopra to inquire about the newfound stylist on set.
Aditya Chopra said, 'He is a townie, he knows all these things, so just listen to him.' So, Shah Rukh wore that costume and I thought I had found my calling," reminisced Karan, marking the amusing beginning of their friendship.
DDLJ, a timeless classic released in 1995, remains a pivotal milestone for both Johar and Khan. The film, directed by Aditya Chopra, also starred Kajol, Anupam Kher, Amrish Puri, and others, narrating the enchanting love story of Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol).
Switching gears to SRK's recent cinematic ventures, the actor treated fans to a spectacular 2023 with three consecutive blockbusters – "Pathaan," "Jawan," and "Dunki." In a recent interview with MBC while promoting "Dunki" in the Middle East, King Khan revealed his plans to kick off shooting for a new project in March-April 2024, signaling his eagerly awaited return to the silver screen within the next 12-15 months.
