Ekta Kapoor has been entertaining the audience for a long time. Be it a show or a movie, TV czarina has been on point when it comes to presenting something new every time. While she was riding high on success with her shows and flicks, she went one step ahead and launched an OTT platform, ALT Balaji to entertain the audience more. After successful web series like Apharan, Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat, The Test Case, Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain and others, she is back with another web series, Baarish. This show starring Asha Negi and Sharman Joshi got launched recently and we watched few episodes of it. Here's what we feel...
What's It About
The story starts with Gauravi (Asha Negi) sitting in a police station while she is accused of something heinous. Her lawyer comes and compels her to share her story so that he can help her. Though she is a little reluctant about sharing it at first but finally gives in. She starts the story of her journey. From meeting Anuj (Sharman Joshi) to liking him, she shares how the rain brought the two souls together.
What we liked
While Ekta Kapoor is known for storytelling, especially love stories, this is one of the simplest tales she has ever told. Till the first three episodes, you won't feel for once that you are getting worked up while watching this show. One more thing that makes this simple love story different from the other is the mystery element that has been implanted in it since the first shot. You would definitely binge watch the show to know why Gauravi has ended up at the police station. Though the lawyer tries hard to blame Anuj for her situation, Gauravi protects him. And this will surely intrigue you.
Nowadays, every story involves a lot of brainstorming but this show will calm you down as you will see rain conspiring to meet two poles apart persons. Sharman Joshi and Asha Negi's flawless acting chops and simple looks are a bonus to this tale of love. Ekta always knows how to join two families and the subplot of Anuj's sister's love story with Gauravi's brother is proof of it. The title song, Baarish though not as addictive as Sohenea or Yeh Kya Hua or even Tum Ho Paas, but will linger in your head for a long time. The dialogues are so simple and realistic that you will instantly relate to it. Negating the damsel in distress concept, Gauravi takes up her own challenge and faces it. This bit of women empowerment will indeed motivate you. The cinematography is on point and you will enjoy every bit of it.
What we didn't like
The intimate scene between Anuj's sister and Gauravi's brother was not needed. It felt like it was forcibly put to add oomph or masala to this sweet love story. The first episode is of almost 30 mins where you will feel as little down but as soon as the story kicks in and Gauravi and Anuj meet, every time it rains, you would want to see them together. If you are a little critical then you can easily call this story a fairytale. Hardly a common girl ends up getting rescued by the company owner and even getting married to him. But this simple tale has every bit of a girls expectation who waits for a prince charming. Although Gauravi gets it on her own even without a fairy godmother.
Verdict
If you want to get the feel of the monsoon before its arrival then this show is a must for you. Its like reading a book with a cup of coffee in your hand while you can see the trees getting drenched in the rain. The show will give that exact feeling to you. A simple love story with a little mushiness will surely relax you after a long day. So go for it.
