Rashmika Mandanna is gearing up for a unique cinematic “face-off” this December as two highly anticipated films, Pushpa 2: The Rule and Chhaava, are set to release back-to-back on December 5 and 6. With Pushpa 2 being the much-awaited sequel to the blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise, and Chhaava marking her debut in a Marathi historical role, the actress has excited fans who are eager to see her showcase her range across two strikingly different characters. As fans gear up to celebrate her versatility, many are torn over which Rashmika character they’re most looking forward to on the big screen.

The Marathi Essence in Chhaava

In Chhaava, Rashmika steps into the shoes of Yesubai Bhonsale, a character rooted in history as the wife of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the eldest son of the Maratha Empire’s founder, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Playing a Maratha queen and stepping into a historical genre is a first for Rashmika, and she has put in tremendous effort to bring authenticity and depth to Yesubai’s character. Alongside her is Vicky Kaushal, who stars as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the Maratha warrior king, marking their first collaboration. Chhaava is expected to be a visually intense drama, capturing the tumultuous history of the Maratha Empire, with seasoned actors like Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta rounding out the cast.

In a recent interview, Vicky Kaushal shared his admiration for Rashmika’s positivity and energy on set, calling her a “sweetheart” who brings warmth and liveliness to every scene. He shared, “Rashmika is the only person who can make hearts in 56 ways. Working with her in Chhava has been refreshing; she has such a positive outlook, and it’s contagious.” His comments have only added to the anticipation surrounding Rashmika’s portrayal of Yesubai.

Returning as Srivalli in Pushpa 2: The Rule

Rashmika’s other December release, Pushpa 2: The Rule, sees her reprising her role as Srivalli, the beloved wife of Allu Arjun’s character, Pushpa Raj. Pushpa: The Rise became a cultural phenomenon, with Srivalli’s character resonating deeply with fans across India. In an interview with Lifestyle Asia India, Rashmika spoke about how challenging and fun it was to bring Srivalli’s character to life in the first film, despite initially being unfamiliar with the character’s background and the world being created.

"With Pushpa 2, I feel like I know Srivalli and the world she lives in so much better now," Rashmika explained, adding that she’s excited to show fans what she calls “Srivalli 2.0.” In the sequel, Srivalli’s character is portrayed as stronger and more self-assured, offering Rashmika the opportunity to showcase a new dimension of Srivalli that audiences haven’t seen before.

A Fan Dilemma: Who to Root for First?

With both films set to hit theaters in early December, fans find themselves divided. Many are thrilled to see Rashmika embrace a new cultural and historical role in Chhava as a Maratha queen, an ambitious undertaking that demonstrates her willingness to experiment with complex characters. Meanwhile, others are eagerly awaiting her return as Srivalli, a character that has already won the hearts of millions.

Social media is buzzing with fan debates as people discuss which film they’ll prioritize. Some are looking forward to seeing Rashmika in a saree, adorned in traditional Marathi jewelry, as Yesubai, while others are already queuing up to watch Srivalli’s fierce and grounded persona. And there are those who refuse to choose, eager to see both versions of Rashmika showcase her versatility as she navigates these vastly different worlds.

According to recent announcements, Pushpa 2: The Rule is set to kick off the Rashmika double feature on December 5, with Chhava following closely on December 6. With the back-to-back release dates, the first week of December is shaping up to be a bumper week for Rashmika’s fans.
