Rajeev Khandelwal gets candid Chenab Gandhi, his 'cancelled film' with Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Rajeev Khandelwal has always left an impact with his acting whether it is films, TV and web shows. Fans still love him as Sujal from the blockbuster show Kahiin Toh Hoga. He did an interview with Siddharth Kannan where he spoke about his career. He said that he has always been choosy about his work. Rajeev Khandelwal’s film Aamir also got a good reception from masses and critics. It was made by No One Killed Jessica director Rajkumar Gupta. When people saw him on the big screen, they said he had made a successful transition and was indeed a powerhouse performer. 

It seems post that Rajeev Khandelwal had signed Chenab Gandhi with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film was to be directed by Vibhu Puri. He is the assistant of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and has written films like Saawariya (2007) and Guzaarish (2010). He is also the director of the movie Hawaizaada that had Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead. But it looks like the Vibhu Puri film did not take off at all. Rajeev Khandelwal said he waited for close to a year for any update but did not get any intimation. Khandelwal said he was bound by a legal contract so he could not take up any new work. 

Khandelwal said he was not upset as at times finance becomes an issue, or producer faces some other problem. Vidya Balan and Amitabh Bachchan were supposed to be his co-stars. Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali collaborated for Black, which had one of the former’s best ever performances. 

It's not like he said that he will keep me around for a year and ruin my career. I'm sure he didn't have a vested interest, it wasn't deliberate. It could've been funding, or any other reason, but he didn't have an answer.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has worked with quite a few actors from TV in the past. Sharad Kelkar was a part of Ram Leela (2013). In Gangubai Kathiawadi, he cast Shantanu Maheshwari and Varun Kapoor. Shruti Sharma got a lot of love for playing Saima in Heeramandi. She was the best friend of Alamzeb (Sharmin Segal).
