Prerna Arora lavishes praise on Aamir Khan and Laapataa Ladies

 Producer Prerna Arora is all set to produce her first bilingual project Hero Heeroine. She is one of the few female producers from the Hindi film industry who is also an ‘outsider’. Prerna Arora had a chat with us on how telling stories from the female perspective was also important for Bollywood. She was full of praise for Aamir Khan for backing Laapataa Ladies, which is winning hearts all over. Talking about the need for more women in production and directed, she said, “I feel it is the need of the hour. Laapataa Ladies was such a surprise. It was an underdog film but shone because of the brilliant content and presentation.” 

She also lauded Aamir Khan. While Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan have separated as a couple they are together as creative collaborators. He had also produced her first movie Dhobi Ghaat. “Well, he had the daring to back a project with a different theme and lesser known actors. Kiran Rao still had the power to find a maker like him. The hierarchy in Bollywood is too strong. There are so many people waiting to tell good stories but they do not have the influence to lobby or inside access,” she opined. 

Prerna Arora was full of praise for Aamir Khan. “Not only is he a superstar but also a great producer to back good subjects. He has one of the most intelligent minds in Bollywood,” she gushed. She highlighted that the Bollywood Vs South debate had brought focus on box office collections like never before. “We are seeing how male stars from the South are emerging as truly big players with their movies giving competition to Hollywood. This has fuelled obsession with box office numbers. While people do love good content, producers/studios give priority to monetary returns,” she said. 

Prerna Arora is also producing a web series Dunk. “I would say working in this field without backing is not easy. There are very few of us out here but yes as long as we good work, there is progress,” she stated.
