Neena Gupta's bold role as 'Dadi Maa' in Lust Stories 2 sparks conversations on pre-marital intimacy

The much-anticipated trailer of Lust Stories 2, the anthology film featuring four captivating short films directed by R Balki, Konkona Sen Sharma, Amit Ravindernath Sharma, and Sujoy Ghosh, was released a few days ago. Among the talented cast, the spotlight falls on Neena Gupta, Angad Bedi, and Mrunal Thakur in R Balki's short film. Neena Gupta's portrayal of a spirited 'dadi maa' (grandmother) in Lust Stories 2 has already caught the attention of viewers. 

In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of her savage personality as she imparts some unconventional advice to Angad and Mrunal. Her line, "Ek chhoti si gaadi lene se pehle test drive karte ho na, so shaadi se pehle no test drive?" (You take a test drive before buying a small car, so why not test drive before marriage?), resonates with audiences.

In a recent interview with the Indian Express, Neena Gupta shed light on her decision to embrace the role of 'dadi maa' in Lust Stories 2. She explained, "Because if it was not dadi maa saying what I am saying, then it would not have any impact. That is why it was important for a dadi maa to say these things which we have said in the film." 

She further emphasized the significance of initiating conversations about sex, particularly for the younger generation. Drawing from her personal experience, she revealed that her own knowledge about sex was limited until she reached college. Recalling her upbringing, she shared that until she was 12 or 13 years old, she had never witnessed her parents sleeping in separate bedrooms.

Neena Gupta went on to disclose a startling belief she held until college: she thought that kissing could lead to pregnancy. The actress said that in earlier times, girls were given some information before they got married. They were told what would happen on the first night, so that she isn't scared or the guy doesn't run away. However, even then, women were told it was their job to deliver children and how they needed to fulfill their 'duty' when their husband asked for sex. 

This is precisely why she believes Lust Stories 2 holds tremendous importance and how her role has sparked a meaningful conversation.

Lust Stories 2 is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix on June 29, 2023.
