Neelam Kothari reveals how she did crazy things to make her marriage with Rishi Sethia work; and its end

Neelam Kothari who is married to Samir Soni revealed how marriages can be crippling and devastating even for women as talented and beautiful as her. She was earlier married to Rishi Sethia who was a businessman based in the UK. A madly in love, Neelam Kothari packed her bags and moved to a foreign country. She tried to adapt to everything that her partner demanded. In the episode of Fabulous Lives Vs Bollywood Wives, she says she was told to only dress in Indian clothes. Moreover, she had to quit non-veg and could not drink. Neelam Kothari says she agreed to do everything as she wanted to make her marriage work. 

The actress was also okay with changing her name after her marriage. She said many Indian women did that, so it would be fine. But when she had to let go of her identity, it was humiliating. Neelam Kothari said there were instances when people walked upto her at restaurants or supermarkets asking if she is Neelam the actress. She had to say no. After a while, it affected her psyche. Neelam became emotional as she confessed that she questioned herself on why she was bending down to this extent. After a while, she decided it was enough to moved back to India. Neelam Kothari said this to Ektaa Kapoor who is a good friend of hers since decades. 

Neelam also said how it was heart-breaking when her daughter Ahana found out that she was divorced from Google. She said she was back home from somewhere and found her daughter sitting quietly with her friends. Normally, they did be jumping and shouting around. When she asked, Ahana told her that she never disclosed about her first marriage. She said her friends and her Googled up as she was a celebrity, and her divorce was on top of the news. Neelam said it was devastating to know that her child found out via this medium. 

She is happily married to actor Samir Soni.
