Actor Anyaa Singh is currently riding a wave of appreciation for her performance in Netflix’s ambitious show The Ba**ds of Bollywood*. She plays Sanya Ahmed, the sharp and dependable manager to Lakshya’s character, Aasman Singh.
What has struck viewers most is how Sanya’s presence becomes a constant source of stability in Aasman’s turbulent journey. From her loyalty as a friend to her steady professional instinct, the character quickly emerged as one of the most admired in the ensemble. Many have singled her out as the emotional anchor of the story, the one figure who never abandons the protagonist when the ground shifts beneath him.
In an exclusive conversation with us, Singh spoke about the experience of playing Sanya and what it meant to be part of a show of such scale. Naturally, the conversation also turned to the show’s creator and writer, Aryan Khan.
For years, Khan has been a figure of intrigue. Beyond public appearances and the occasional headline, little is truly known about him. That he chose to debut with a series as audacious as The Ba**ds of Bollywood* only adds to the fascination. On paper alone, the idea of pulling off a drama of this size, tone, and subject matter would seem improbable. Yet Khan not only put it together but managed to bring a distinctive voice to it, ensuring it carried through to the final cut.
Given how daring the material often feels, we asked Singh whether, during filming, there were ever moments when the script felt like it might be pushing boundaries too far. Her response was clear.
Aryan Khan was so sure of what he was making and he was so sure of his decisions. Of course, he knew that there was going to be talks, of course he knew there will be questions, of course he knew that for some people, it will be too far but he was ready to take that risk. And it has now worked wonders because he stood by his vision, and I use the word 'gutsy' because the show is gutsy. And for me, to be a part of a show which is so away from the norm of filmmaking today and to take those decisions, and be like, you know what, 'I believe in this'. It is great to have a filmmaker believe in what he is set out to make and not move here or there no matter what comes. I mean it is easy to be perturbed by noise and doubts but Aryan was incredibly sure on what he is making, what he is set out to do and hence he didn't listen to any noise at all and stood by his own vision.

Her words paint a picture of a filmmaker who entered the process with rare clarity. In an industry where scripts are often shaped and reshaped by external pressures, Khan’s refusal to dilute his vision stands out. Singh describes him as someone who anticipated the debates the series might spark, but who refused to be rattled by them.
That clarity seems to have carried through to the final product. The Ba**ds of Bollywood* has struck audiences with both its storytelling and its candor. For Singh, the experience of being part of it was also about aligning with that conviction. By her account, there was no room for second-guessing once Khan’s intent became clear.
From what has been seen and written about Aryan Khan so far, this seems to be the defining feature of his approach. He may be just starting out, but he has already made it clear that his work will not be shaped by the expectation of safety. The Ba**ds of Bollywood* is now streaming on Netflix, carrying with it the weight of that intent.
