Rajat Bedi is experiencing renewed attention following his role in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood. He plays Jaraj Saxena, a Bollywood actor whose face feels familiar but whose name people struggle to recall. Some scenes hint that Jaraj is inspired by Rajat’s memorable negative role in Koi Mil Gaya. Recently, he opened up about being sidelined during the film’s promotions.
Struggles abroad and return to India
Speaking at the Khajuraho International Film Festival (KIFF), Rajat said, “I have been used and abused and left behind specially in my work. I have faced the consequences of trusting people. It happened in Canada. I was a real estate developer and an actor. I had partners who did the numbers on me. I faced bad consequences, but it was great also for me because it made me move back to India.”
Once back, he faced another setback. “Koi Mil Gaya became this blockbuster film, and it was publicised with Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta and Rakesh Roshan. I was left out in the publicity, but till today, people recognise me, love me for that role. I can’t take that away. It was wonderful to work with Rakesh ji. He is one of the best directors I have worked with," he added.
Rajat Bedi’s career has found fresh momentum with The Ba***ds of Bollywood and other OTT projects. He described the surge of opportunities on OTT platforms as a great blessing for actors, allowing both technicians and performers to showcase their work. Rajat added that audiences would soon see him in Bollywood after a 16-year hiatus, calling his upcoming project a major one and noting that he was fortunate to be approached because of his past work in films.
Rajat Bedi, a third-generation film family member, revealed his 22-year-old son is set to debut as an actor. He is the son of filmmaker Narendra Bedi, grandson of writer Rajinder Singh Bedi, and his sister writes for major Bollywood films.
