Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui faces trouble following a recent commercial that stirred up a debate. A Hindu group blames him for damaging the Maharashtra police's reputation and seeks legal measures against him.

According to a report from Free Press Journal, the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti has urged the Mumbai Police commissioner and the head of Maharashtra's police to initiate legal proceedings against Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The group claims that his depiction of a police officer in an online gaming advertisement harms the reputation of the Maharashtra Police.

Their Surajya Abhiyan campaign is calling for prompt action, accusing Siddiqui of slandering the police by endorsing poker while wearing a Maharashtra police uniform. The organization asserts that the advertisement is harmful and disrespectful to law enforcement.

Abhishek Murukate, the Maharashtra state coordinator for Surajya Abhiyan, wrote a letter to the state’s DGP and the Mumbai Police commissioner, requesting that they take action against Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Ankur Singh, the owner of the online gaming application. The letter demands stringent legal action under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979, and the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, for allegedly defaming the police through the contentious advertisement.

The letter expressed significant worries about the matter, pointing out the irony that the very police department that apprehends gamblers is now entangled in this controversy. The Hindu Janjagruti Samiti's Surajya Abhiyan criticized the advertisement for damaging the reputation of the Maharashtra Police, cautioning that ignoring this issue might result in an increase in unlawful and unethical advertisements that exploit police uniforms.

The letter read, "It tarnishes the image of Maharashtra Police. Ignoring this could lead to more illegal and unethical advertisements using police uniforms."

Murukate highlighted the dedication and training of the Maharashtra police, criticizing the advertisement for suggesting that online gambling improves their abilities. He expressed his disappointment that no police officer has been motivated to take action against the gaming application, mentioning that it was regrettable that complaints had to originate from external sources. He also conveyed hope that Maharashtra’s home minister would pay attention to the matter.

On the professional side, Nawazuddin Siddiqui began his Bollywood career in 1999 with the movie Sarfarosh, which starred Aamir Khan in the lead role. Their partnership continued in Talaash: The Answer Lies Within and extended to Aamir's co-production, Peepli Live, in 2010.
