Another earthquake has struck north India. Natural disasters cause devastation of life and property but at the same time they are an important element in some movies. The man vs. natural disaster genre has so many great films from Hollywood as well as Bollywood.
Here are 6 Bollywood films which feature natural disasters.
1. Kai Po Che
This flick tells us the story of three friends who dream big and all their dreams are crushed when an earthquake occurs and destroys the under construction building in which they plan to set up their shop.
2. Oh My God
OMG is based on the story of Kanji Lalji Mehta, a businessman whose shop is destroyed by an earthquake. The film takes pace at this moment itself as the insurance company denies him cover as the earthquake was an act of god. This leads him to finally file a case against God!
3. Tum Mile
Tum Mile uses the 2005 Mumbai floods as an important part of the film. The film captures reality and shows the brutality of the flood. Emraan Hashmi dies when he falls in the water with an open cable and gets electrocuted.
4. Mother India
Mother India is a classic Bollywood film which was released in the year 1957. This movie showed the struggle of farmers whose crops and houses are washed away by floods.
Set in the United States this movie tells us the story of Rizwan Khan and the struggle of the Muslim community in the 'states' after 9/11. The movie shows parts of Georgia submerged in water due to a massive storm that causes floods.
6. Lagaan(2001)
Lagaan is one of the most grossing films of Bollywood which portrays the condition of Indians under the British rule and how Indians had to suffer in the times of a drought. The film tells us the story of a village who was unable to produce any crops due to shortage of water and how the Britishers refused any excuses when they couldn't pay taxes.
