Aditya Sarpotdar talks about similarity between Munjya and Gollum

Aditya Sarpotdar and the team of Munjya is on cloud nine. The film has made more than Rs four crore on day one. Everyone is going gaga over the VFX and CGI of Munjya. The makers spent maximum amount of money to get the teen demon right on screen. The trailer had Sathyaraj as the exorcist. Aditya Sarpotdar told us in an EXCLUSIVE chat, “It was a collective idea, and it came from Dinesh Vijan. He wanted someone away from the world of Bollywood. He was like let the audience get curious on how he’ll fit into the world of Munjya. While Sathyaraj works in all South Indian languages he hardly does Hindi movies. Chennai Express was an exception. For Munjya, we did not have starpower, the film had to succeed on its merit. He immediately said yes, and he is a master actor.” 

Maddock decided to pump in maximum money on Munjya. “We decided to just get him correct. We got an international team on board. If we had big stars more than 20 per cent of budget would have gone on them and their needs,” he says. Sarpotdar also says he is a ‘Bhakt’ of The Lord Of The Rings series. “I have not watched Harry Potter series as I am a loyalist of LOTR. Gollum is benchmark character in film history. The similarity between Gollum and Munjya is that both are kids, have a mischievous side, sarcastic humour and can be evil. Gollum is a humanoid and not a monster per se. Both of them have innocence with evil traits. So, while he looks like Gollum people will not think of Gollum while watching Munjya.” 

Munjya stars Mona Singh, Sharvari Joshi, Abhay Verma, Sathyaraj in main roles. Yogesh Chandekar and Niren Bhatt are the writers of the film. It is made by Maddock Films.
