Bassist Mohini Dey recently addressed the ongoing rumours linking her divorce announcement to AR Rahman’s separation from his wife, Saira Banu. Both announcements were made on the same day, leading to widespread speculation. Taking to Instagram, Mohini urged people to respect her privacy and dismissed the false claims surrounding her personal life.
Mohini shared a message on her Instagram Stories, indirectly reacting to the rumours about her alleged connection with the Oscar-winning composer. She explained that she had received numerous interview requests regarding the matter but chose not to entertain them. Mohini wrote, “I've been getting a humungous amount of requests for interviews and I know exactly what it's about so, I have to respectfully turn each one down because I am not interested in fuelling into ABSOLUTE BS. I believe my energy is not worth spending on RUMOURS. Kindly, respect my privacy (sic).”
Meanwhile, Rahman’s son, Ameen, also came forward to condemn the baseless gossip. He posted on Instagram, expressing disappointment over the false narratives being spread about his family. In his statement, he said, “My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions, but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years. It’s disheartening to see false and baseless rumours being spread. Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy. Please refrain from engaging in or spreading such misinformation. Let’s honour and preserve his dignity and the incredible impact he has had on all of us. #EPI (sic).”
Rahman’s daughter, Raheema, also voiced her frustration regarding the rumours. On Instagram, she shared a post saying, “Always remember… Rumours are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” She further added, “Honestly, get a life.”
Earlier this week, AR Rahman and Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage. They cited significant emotional strain as the reason behind the decision. The couple, married in 1995, shares three children – Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. In their joint statement, they requested privacy as they navigate this phase of their lives.
