Music is a mode of communication that appeals to the hearts. If a picture can convey a thousand words, music can convey a thousand emotions. The Indian entertainment industry has portrayed many stories on the silver screen as well as the small screen through various tunes. While Bollywood songs have us all in a trance, television has consistently borrowed such captivating tunes to add spice to their storytelling. We at BollyCurry, have picked out few such Tellywood moments where Bollywood melodies have expressed what words fell short for.
"Tera Hero Idhar Hai" in Ek Veer Ki Ardaas... Veera
The popular number from Main Tera Hero (2014) was a sequence where Baldev (Vishal Vashishtha) tries to woo Veera (Digangana Suryavanshi) following a condition where he is given only three hours to make her fall in love with him. The confident Baldev performs on "Tera Hero Idhar Hai" whilst on a date. The song suited the carefree character of Baldev and the choreography was entertaining not only for audiences but for Veera too. Towards the end of the three hours, Veera was surely impressed by Baldev, but her ego did not let her admit the fact that she had developed feelings for him. However, that did not stop us from thoroughly enjoying Baldev's charm and modish performance!
"Aao Raja" in Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant
This item song from Gabbar is Back (2015) added sensuality and humour to the show. The Kant family convinced Surili Kant (Pallavi Pradhan) to give Rajni (Ridhima Pandit) a chance before she could reject her as a bride for her son, Shaan Kant (Karan V Grover). The robot, played by Pandit, was programmed by Dev (Neel Motwani) to enhance the dislike that Surili already had for her. In the mission to create a wave of disdain, Rajini grooves to the sultry "Aao Raja". The song blended well with the characters' motive and served its purpose. Sure enough, the sequence did shock the family, creating massive disapproval for Rajni.
"Bolna" in Sadda Haq... My Life My Choice
The melody from Kapoor & Sons (2016) set a perfect emotional mood in the Channel V show. Randhir (Param Singh) and Sanyukta (Harshita Gaur) realize that they failed to understand the amount of pain and hardship they went through in all the years they were apart. Due to a lack of communication, the dispute between them only multiplied with time. "Bolna" describes the lead pair's longing for each other and beautifully reflects their unsaid thoughts. The sequence shows that a lot can be conveyed without words as the music and lyrics did all the talking.
"Mat Ja Re" in Nisha Aur Uske Cousins
Nothing matches the emptiness one feels when we see the love of our life walk away. A similar predicament occurred in Nisha Aur Uske Cousins when Kabir (Mishkat Varma) decided to leave Jaipur. Nisha (Aneri Vajani) tried to find him and stop him while "Mat Ja Re" played in the background. The sequence is filled with pain and suspense as Nisha searches for her beloved. This song from Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) fit well into the episode and helped the audience connect to the emotions of the characters. The editing was commendable as it conveyed the sentiments through the lyrics rather than the use of dialogues.
"Zindagi... Do Pal Ki" in Miley Jab Hum Tum
This romantic number from Kites (2010) was weaved into the show as it was nearing the end of its first season. As a tragedy was supposed to approach followed by a leap, this song was the last romantic sequence before the drama kicked in. While Mayank (Arjun Bijlani) and Nupur (Rati Pandey) cleared their misunderstandings and decided to renew their vows, Samrat (Mohit Sehgal) proposed to Gunjan (Sanaya Irani). The direction and editing were so apt, that one might believe the song was actually made for the STAR One show. The frequent shift in beats and rhythm were used to transition between the couples and turned out to be one memorable sequence for all fans!
Music stays with us even after we walk out of the theatres. Bollywood movies are incomplete without the jingles and melodies; and after watching the same songs being used so aptly in our favourite television shows, we fall in love with them all over again. Besides the few we listed, there are many shows which use the tactic of narration through music. Be it an item song, a dance number or a romantic song, Tellywood always manages to establish a subtle connection with Bollywood. As music deeply touches hearts, it also helps the characters' emotions and feelings to reach out to us. In the comments section below, let us know which such musical instance stuck a chord with you!
