Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has addressed the emotional impact of his separation from wife Saira Banu, after 29 years of marriage. The couple, who had been together since 1995, made headlines when the news of their split surfaced, leaving fans in shock. Rahman shared a heartfelt message on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, opening up about this personal chapter in his life.
In his post, Rahman spoke about the emotional burden of the separation, expressing sorrow over the unexpected turn of events. He wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts." Despite the pain, Rahman reflected on the search for meaning in this difficult moment, adding, “Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again."
Acknowledging the support he’s received, Rahman thanked his friends and well-wishers. “To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter," he wrote, emphasizing the importance of privacy during such a vulnerable time. This was one of Rahman’s rare public comments on the separation, which came shortly after Saira Banu’s lawyer issued a statement confirming the split.
Saira Banu also shared her emotional experience, stating, “The tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between us, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time." She too requested privacy, urging the public to understand the challenging nature of this situation.
As the couple navigates this personal upheaval, Rahman remains focused on his professional projects, including films like Chhaava, Thug Life, Lahore 1947, and Genie. The couple, parents to daughters Raheema and Khatija, and son Ameen, continue to prioritize their family’s well-being during this time.
