The entertainment industry suffered probably its biggest loss a couple of days ago as Bharat Ratna and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92. And just as millions continue to mourn the late legend, another veteran has taken the heavenly route.
Actor Praveen Kumar Sobti, who continues to be best remembered foe playing the iconic character of Bheem in the cult show, Mahabharata has passed away at the age of 74. Reports suggested that he was not well for a while before he ultimately succumbed.
Kumar was always known for his tall build and stature where he was an actor and a sportsman who hailed from Punjab. Before starting his career in acting, he was a hammer and discus throw athlete. He was even the recipient of several awards in sports including the prestigious Arjuna award. Due to his reputation in sports, he even got the job of Deputy Commandant in the Border Security Force (BSF).
His first role in a movie directed by Ravikant Nagaich did not have any dialogue. However, he did several films after that including Amitabh Bachchan’s Shahenshah where he was seen as Mukhtaar Singh.
It was only his role as Bheem in the iconic Mahbharata that made him a household name at that time. Later, Kumar joined politics where he was in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) but switched to Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) after losing the assembly elections from Wazirpur constituency in Delhi in 2013.
May his soul rest in peace.
