Liam Payne’s close friend Ant Middleton learned of the singer’s tragic passing just moments before appearing on live television.

During a Wednesday episode of Australia’s Channel 7 morning show “Sunrise,” Middleton, who collaborated with Payne on the 2019 documentary “Ant Middleton & Liam Payne: Straight Talking,” paid tribute to his late friend on air.

“I speak to Liam quite often, he’s a good friend of mine. And, wow, I’m shocked, this is obviously the first I’m hearing of it,” he said.
