Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated film Emergency has been caught in a legal controversy, leading to a delay in its release. The film, which was originally scheduled to hit theaters on September 6, has now been postponed by two weeks due to ongoing disputes involving the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and objections raised by certain groups.

The legal tussle began when Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, raised concerns about the film's portrayal of historical events and alleged misrepresentation of the Sikh community. These objections prompted the Madhya Pradesh High Court to direct the CBFC to consider these grievances before issuing a certification for the film. Consequently, the CBFC withheld the certification, leading to further complications for the film's release.

In response to the delay, Kangana Ranaut took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustration. Sharing a tweet from Live Law, she wrote, "High court has blasted censor for illegally withholding the certificate of #emergency." Her comment reflects her disappointment with the legal hurdles that have obstructed the film's release.

The situation escalated when Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the film's producer, approached the Bombay High Court, seeking an order to compel the CBFC to issue the certification. During the hearing, the court acknowledged that the certification was ready but had not been issued due to procedural delays. However, the court refrained from passing an order in favor of the producers, citing the existing directive from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which required the CBFC to review the objections before certifying the film.

The biographical drama Emergency, directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut, revolves around a crucial period in Indian history—the Emergency declared by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. The film has generated significant interest due to its subject matter and Kangana's portrayal of Indira Gandhi. Despite the controversy, the film is expected to offer a gripping narrative of one of India's most turbulent political eras.

With the release date now pushed further from September 13, the film’s journey to the big screen has been anything but smooth. As the legal issues are addressed, audiences eagerly await the opportunity to watch Kangana's take on this pivotal chapter in Indian history.
