John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh's Vedaa Secures U/A Certification After CBFC Cuts Over 9 Minutes of Footage

Just before the big release of their new movie Vedaa, John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh are gearing up for its premiere. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly given the film a U/A certificate. This rating was granted on August 6 after more than 9 minutes of content were trimmed from the movie.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC gave a U/A certificate to John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh's Vedaa on August 6 after cutting over 9 minutes of content. The censor board requested the filmmakers to modify a 1-minute-16-second disclaimer by including a voiceover. Also, a dialogue considered offensive towards women and social identity required changes, and the offensive term ‘behenk*or’ was substituted with ‘bana’.

As per the latest updates, a scene showing a hanging lasting 2 minutes and 16 seconds has been eliminated from the movie. Additionally, the filmmakers were directed to mute the mention of ‘Jodhpur’ in connection to the Jodhpur High Court. Furthermore, the CBFC asked for a 30% reduction in the violent visuals portraying the court's premises.

The censor board has asked for the removal of a scene where a character listens to Sanskrit shlokas on an audio track. They also demanded the deletion of text saying "Brahmin son…Shudra’s son" and told the filmmakers to blur scenes showing the tearing of currency notes.

Previously, Nikkhil Advani and the producers of Vedaa released a joint statement discussing the delay in getting certification from the CBFC for their Independence Day 2024 release. In the statement, the film's team expressed, "We, the producers of Vedaa, want to inform our fans and supporters that despite our utmost efforts, we are yet to receive clearance and certification from the CBFC of India."

Apart from John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh, Abhishek Banerjee will play a significant role in Vedaa, with Tamannaah Bhatia also part of the cast. The film is set to hit the screens on August 15, 2024, competing with Stree 2, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Tamannaah Bhatia. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Vedaa signifies his collaboration with John Abraham post the success of Batla House. Zee Studios, along with Emmay Entertainment and JA Entertainment, is producing Vedaa.
