Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina's movie Jigra hit theatres on Friday. Directed by Vasan Bala, it was screened in over 3,000 shows across India. The film managed to earn ?4.25 crore nett on its opening day, as reported by Sacnilk. This marks Alia's lowest opening since her 2014 film Highway. The movie was released in both Hindi and Telugu, with an overall occupancy of 20.13% in Hindi and 20.17% in the Telugu version, which had only 42 shows.
Highway, released when Alia was still gaining recognition, made ?3.4 crore on its first day. However, it went on to collect ?30 crore nett in India. Since then, Alia has starred in many successful films like Dear Zindagi, Raazi, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmastra, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
The film Jigra faced tough competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, which opened with ?5 crore and had around 3,500 shows. This gave it a slight advantage over Alia's movie. Interestingly, Jigra is Alia's only release for 2024.

On her upcoming projects, Alia Bhatt is set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War, alongside her husband Ranbir Kapoor and Raazi co-star Vicky Kaushal. Additionally, she will appear in Alpha, which will release on December 25, 2025, featuring Sharvari.
Divya Khossla recently took to Instagram to criticize Alia Bhatt. She shared that she attended a show where the theatres were nearly empty. Divya claimed that Alia has a lot of Jigra (courage/bravado) to announce inflated collections, suggesting the filmmakers might have purchased bulk tickets to boost the reported figures.
She implied that the media had to be "bought" to ignore such situations. It’s worth mentioning that Divya's film, Savi, is said to be inspired by Gumraah, the original version of Jigra, directed by Mahesh Bhatt in 1993 and featuring Sridevi and Sanjay Dutt.
