January is perhaps the coldest month of the year for most parts of
the world with the low temperatures making us shiver. But the weather
might not be the only reason for chills. The first month of 2013 saw the
Box Office being ruled by three much-awaited thrillers.

The Box Office for the year 2013 opened with the action thriller
Table No. 21,
released on January 4. This
Rajeev Khandelwal-Tena Desae-
Paresh Rawal
starrer deals with the issue of ragging and how extensive its damage can
be. It has a task-based game show as the background of the plot. The
movie got mixed reviews by the critics and a slow start at the box
office but as weeks passed, it managed a decent collection.
Released on January 18,
Inkaar(2013) is
a crime thriller which depicts sexual harassment in a corporate set-up.
Starring
Arjun Rampal and Chitrangada Singh in the lead roles, the
movie met with mixed reviews but its direction by
Sudhir Mishra was
praised. It failed to make an impression at the box office though it was
at number one during the week of its release. However, the film has
managed to appeal to a part of the audience, even if the number is
small.
Sequel to the hit 2008 thriller
Race,
Race 2
is the first big release of 2013. A multi-starrer with numerous popular
faces to boast of, the main plot of the movie revolves around the
murder of Sonia (
Bipasha Basu), the female lead from the prequel, and
how it leads to every other character being caught in a web of lies,
deceit and betrayal with the moral being no one can be trusted. The
critics gave it mixed reviews but it managed to receive a positive
response at the box office.
With almost every
week having a new thriller at the silver screen, it seems like fans of
other genres haven't had much to look forward to in cinemas this past
month. But for those enjoying some suspense and action, there are so
many to choose from. Which one was your favorite?
