Imtiaz Ali opens up as 'Rockstar' completes 10 years

He shared that it's a great feeling when a film is being discussed and its characters and situations are being dissected even after ten years after its release.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is a man who has managed to not only carve out an amazing career with his directorial movies but many of them have even went on to achieve cult status over the years. In fact, even with his divided films, there have been multiple instances where a few of his films have aged amazingly well and furthermore attained a lot of love over the years - the best examples being Tamasha and Rockstar.

And talking about Rockstar, the film completed an amazing 10 years, and while it divided audiences, the film was reasonably successful at the box office. Not many know that the film was Ali's passion project and recently in an interview with a news portal, Ali talked about it.

He shared that it's a great feeling when a film is being discussed and its characters and situations are being dissected even after ten years after its release. He then added -- that a film belongs to its viewers more than its makers. “I know there are people who own the movie much more than I do”.

When asked about what went behind creating Ranbir Kapoor’s character ‘Jordan’, Imtiaz reveals that he (Ranbir) wasn’t his first choice. Elaborating further, he shared that he ‘began trying to make Rockstar even before Ranbir became an actor’....but when he met Ranbir, he revealed that ‘Ranbir strangely knew the story of Rockstar.’ He shared that he saw ‘Jordan’ in him.

Ali also shared an anecdote from the days when the film had just released. He recollects waiting for the lift at a production house and there was a girl inside who seemed to be crying. Since he had to get into the same elevator, but looking at her he wasn’t so sure. But then she looked at him and rudely asked him if I wanted to come in. He shared the moment he walked into the lift, the girl cried and said -- ‘Don’t listen to anyone. Rockstar is the most amazing film.’ She said it to me with such wrath!” Ali believes that people have indeed taken the film very personally.
