In the year 2010, a voice entered the world of Bollywood crooning the now infamous song "Munni Badnaam Hui" from the movie Dabangg (2010). The movie went on to become a blockbuster and the song became a favorite in the party crowd. The singer got her break in Bollywood and since that day has not looked back. She is none other than Mamta Sharma and BollyCurry has chosen her as the Illuminated Artiste of the month.
Born in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, Sharma started singing when she
was 11. She had no official training in music and learnt singing by
modulating her voice and mimicking singers. Her mother, who was a
graduate in music, was
learning from her teacher when the teacher
spotted Sharma mimicking her. The teacher asked Sharma's mother to send
her for jagrans and orchestras, and thus started her singing career.
Considering Asha Bhosle as her guru, Sharma followed the vocals of her
and Lata Mangeshkar and practiced their songs to better her singing
abilities.Sharma came to Mumbai in 2000 and struggled for
nine years. Believing that doing stage performances would bring her more
attention from the music world, Sharma started doing stage shows. But
unfortunately, her efforts were not rewarded right away and she
continued to struggle. Finally, she was spotted by Lalit Pandit of
Jatin-Lalit fame on a tour and rest, as they say, is history!
For her rendition of "Munni Badnaam Hui" Sharma won the Best Female
Playback Singer Award at Filmfare Awards, Annual Star Screen Awards,
Apsara Film Producers' Guild Awards and many more.
Since her big break, Sharma went on to sing many item songs such as "Tinku Jiya", "Anarkali Disco Chali", "Aa Re Pritam Pyaare", "Fevicol Se" and many more. Her songs are quite famous amongst party goers and are most danced on in weddings.
Below is the list of Sharma's top songs that are still playing in many music lovers' car stereos and music players.
