Suhasi Goradia Dhami presently plays the character of Swarn Aabha in Zee TV and Rajshri Productions' Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli. The actress who was earlier seen in Aek Chabhi Hai Padoss Mein had taken a break from television. We get to know that she wasn't taking a time-out all this while but was busy with big-screen projects down south, loads of commercials and would you believe it, getting married!
A reticent girl by nature, Suhasi slowly reveals on how marriage has brought about positive changes in her life, why Rajshri Productions is so special and the secret of her gorgeous glowing face!!
Over to Suhasi…
What's the reason for the one and half year sabbatical?
When you do a lot of TV, it gets monotonous… you see the same faces again and again. I thought I'd take a break.
We wonder how you got an additional surname Dhami?
(Laughs) Yeah I got married.
When?
(Hesitates) A while back…
Can you just fill us in on your marriage? Was there any particular reason for it to be a low-key affair?
Well, it was a family thing but not too much of a family thing, because a few people from my earlier show had attended my wedding. But yes, I didn't want too much to be made out of it.
Okay, now tell us about your hubby…
He is an IT engineer. I've known him for thirteen years…
Wow!
Yeah, he…is my college sweetheart.
Umm…you still haven't told us his name.
His name is Jay Dhami.
How has marriage changed your life?
After marriage I got to do two South films. Lots of commercials, and now this great show with Rajshri and Zee. So, I can say marriage has only brought about good changes in my life. Yes, since I have entered into a family I have also transformed as a person. But I don't have anything to complain as such. My new family is very supportive and loving. Its something…umm…what do you say…I'm lucky!
Is marriage the reason you're looking way gorgeous than you did in your previous show?
(Laughs) You really think so? Thanks! But marriage is not necessarily the reason behind it, I suppose. In my previous show, I did a very girl next-door role, a bit nakhrewali, but still simple. And with the Rajshri show everything changed, right from the makeup to the lights and camera, they just make you several notches better looking. Also, with the time that's passed I've matured. And I'm happy with my marriage so I guess it shows on my face (laughs). So maybe marriage does have a little something to do with my face!
You're working with veteran actors, so how does it feel to rub shoulders with them?
Smita Jaykar ji is amazing. She didn't let me feel once that she's a way experienced actor than I am. We just sit and chat about nonsensical things. But yes, she keeps correcting me and I value her constructive criticism. Alok Nath ji is another amazing person I've had the fortune to work with. He is always helpful. When you work with senior actors you get a lot of valuable inputs. Then there's Karan Grover who is truly good as a person. Everyone is nice.
You seem to hold Rajshri Productions highly.
Yes, it's true. Everywhere you see actors engaged in one tiff or the other with production houses because the actors demand for something that the production house is not ready to give. However, Rajshri takes care of you so much that really you don't need the feel to open your mouth to demand as such.
You are playing the lead role of a show produced by as reputed a house as Rajshri. How much did you prepare for the role?
I had to make a lot of psychological preps to play Abha. She is too typical for me to totally connect with her. Plus they've used pure Hindi and Urdu words so the language was another thing I had to put a little extra effort on. However, I'd say the director takes a big piece of the credit pie for helping me understand the little peculiarities of the character.
How similar or different is she from you?
Umm…Abha took such a long time to decide whether she'd be working or not. I can make up my mind easily over such matters. But Abha stands for her family so I can connect with her on that. She is from Jhansi so that too makes her a lot different from me. So mostly I'm not like her but deep within I know there are some things that bind us.
