Heeramandi actress Sharmin Segal has been in the eye of a storm. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s opulent show for Netflix has been renewed for a new season, and many do not want Alamzeb in part two. The actress has also been called out by social media for being totally expressionless on the show. In an interview to ETimes, Sharmin Segal has said that she was inspired by Meena Kumari. The yesteryear diva is immortalized in Bollywood history for her work in Pakeezah. Kamal Amrohi’s movie on the life of a tawaif (courtesan) is seen as the blueprint for many films in the genre. Sharmin Segal said she wanted to bring Meena Kumari’s “nothingness” on screen.
