Happy 24th Birthday Kangna!

 

Kangna Ranaut celebrates her 24th birthday today!

 

Kangna was born on 23rd March, 1987 to Asha and Amardeep Ranaut in Bhambla, Himachal Pradesh. The middle of two siblings, she has an elder sister, Rangoli and a younger brother, Akshit. Ka

 

After completing her schooling, she attended Science College in Simla. At first, Kangna wished to become a doctor but later realizing the limitations of medicine, she decided to try theatre instead. It is for this reason Kangna moved to Delhi and joined the Elite Modelling Agency in 2003. She also tried some theatre acting and was a member of the Smita Theater Group under Arvind Gaur where she performed in two plays: Madhavi and Rakht Kalyan. Kangna is also a trained Kathak dancer and is learning to sing from Amitabh Chakraborty.

 

Kangna made her foray into Bollywood at the tender age of 18 where her first break came in the form of Gangster. She was spotted by director Anurag Basu in a cafe, who went on to offer her the lead role in his film. The movie was both critically and commercially successful and Kangna was especially applauded where she bagged numerous debut awards for her outstanding performance. This was followed by another acclaimed performance in Woh Lamhe (2006).

 

Kangna teamed up with Anurag Basu once again for Life In A... Metro. Her performance in the film earned her a few bad reviews with some critics whilst some lauded her amazing acting. She also starred in Shakalaka Boom Boom (2007) as an aspiring singer. Her next film, Fashion, starring Priyanka Chopra and Mugdha Godse, released in 2008. The film, portraying the dark side of the fashion world, was a critical success and Ranaut's portrayal of a supermodel who loses everything to drugs gained her widespread praise, fetching her various awards including the prestigious Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. Kangna has also worked in Tamil and Telugu films.

 

In 2009 the unorthodox actress starred in the thriller Raaz - The Mystery Continues with Emraan Hashmi. The movie belted another commercial success for Kangna and was declared as the first reasonable hit of the year. Her next release was Vaada Raha with Bobby Deol.  2010 saw her opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kites and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai alongside Ajay Devgn.

 

To break away from her dramatic cast-type, Kangna is now venturing in more lighter, comedy oriented roles. She has proved her mettle in this genre as well with her bubbly, foul-mouthed act in Tanu Weds Manu. Her forthcoming release is the much awaited action-thriller Game, in which she plays a cop.

 

Diversity is Kangna's mantra as is evident from the numerous characters she has portrayed. This young beauty is forever surprising everyone and has carved herself a comfortable niche in this volatile industry.

 

Celebrating her birthday in style, Kangna hosted a party for her close friends and colleagues. The list of party goers included Mallika Sherawat, Jimmy Shergill, Riteish Deshmukh, Director Indra Kumar, Aashish and wife Samita Chaudhary and last but not the least her Fashion director Madhur Bhandarkar.
