Bollywood's best known "Bad Man" Gulshan Grover has always had a penchant for adding a different gimmick to his mannerisms or dialogue or even makeup. As an actor, especially as a villain, this goes back to the days when Pran ruled the roost. He had this penchant, too.
In like vein, Gulshan likes to don different get-ups to give that little extra edge to his audience. In his latest film, Karzzz, the actor has experimented with something completely different, again.
The latest add-on to his character has been a Rs 25-lakh steel hand! Gulkshan Grover lost his father recently, but back from the personal setback, he plunged into action straightaway. "I miss my dad terribly, but the show must go on," said Gulshan, "and that's what my dad always wanted me to do." Displaying true professional spirit, Gulshan was back to the greasepaint in less than a week after performing his dad's last rites in their ancestral home in Delhi. The first film to benefit from Gulshan's return to work is the multi-crore Himesh Reshammiya starrer, Karzzz. In Karzzz, Gulshan plays Sir Jedu which was played by Premnath in the original Karz. But the 2008 remake is being talked about on account of Gulshan's get-up which involves rather expensive imported stuff. They have made a 'hand' of pure steel and imported gadgets, for instance. "The cost of the hand put together is Rs 25 lakh!" said an elated Gulshan. Added a unit member, "This is for the first time in the history of Bollywood, we have created something unique like this."
Gulshan may be excited about his hand which, if Gabbar Singh was alive, would have been more coveted than Thakur's in Sholay! Gulshan is naturally raring to go with his hand, but finds it pretty heavy to wear (ask Dilip Kumar about the armour he was burdened with in Mughal-e-Azam). "I have to be very careful with my 25 lakh ka haath," he laughs. The idea of this special get-up got a helping hand from director Satish Kaushik and of course you've got to hand it to the producer Bhushan Kumar who willingly went with the idea. "We wanted to create something different and came up with this concept," said Satish Kaushik. The film is on a large canvas with exotic locales, romantic songs, never-before fight scenes, the works. "I'm very happy the way the film has shaped up," added Satish.
As for singer turned actor Himesh, he will have another odd to fight after his nose; Gulshan's hand!
