Actress Disha Patani's father, Jagdish Singh Patani, reportedly got scammed of ?25 lakh by five people who offered him a top job in a government commission, as per police info shared with PTI on Friday.
An FIR was filed in the matter at Bareilly Kotwali police station on Friday evening by Jagdish Singh Patani, a retired deputy superintendent of police.
The Kotwali police station in-charge DK Sharma mentioned that Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash from Juna Akhara, Preeti Garg, and an unknown individual are facing charges of fraud, threats, and blackmail.
“Efforts are underway to arrest the accused and take strict action,” DK Sharma added.
Jagdish Singh Patani, living in Civil Lines area of Bareilly, claimed that Shivendra Pratap Singh, a personal acquaintance, introduced him to Diwakar Garg and Acharya Jayaprakash. They boasted about their political ties and promised Patani they could assist him in obtaining a chairman, vice-chairman, or another esteemed role in a government commission.
The group reportedly swindled ?25 lakh from Jagdish Patani - ?5 lakh in cash and ?20 lakh through transfers to three bank accounts. When no developments occurred for three months, the culprits promised to refund the money with interest. However, when Patani requested his money back, they resorted to threats and aggressive behavior towards him, as per police statements.
Disha also mentioned that the accused tricked him by presenting one of their associates as an "officer on special duty" named Himanshu to strengthen their fake political connections. When Patani started suspecting a bigger scam, he filed a complaint with the police.
