The internet is currently abuzz with a legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur's inheritance, reportedly valued at Rs 30,000 crore. Following his death from cardiac arrest, a dispute arose regarding the assets, with Karisma Kapoor's children also becoming involved in the case.
Priya Kapur maintains Karisma Kapoor's children have received ?1,900 crore via the RK family trust. However, reports contradict this, indicating the children haven't accessed the funds. This discrepancy fuels the ongoing legal battle over Sunjay Kapur's inheritance, highlighting the complexities and disputes surrounding the assets.
Karisma Kapoor, representing her children Samaira (20) and Kiaan (15), has initiated legal action against Priya Kapur, seeking their rightful share of their father Sunjay Kapur's ?30,000 crore estate. The children allege the will was suppressed and forged, surfacing only seven weeks after his death.
During the Delhi High Court proceedings, Kapur's counsel asserted that Karisma's children had already received ?1,900 crore via the RK family trust. However, a Financial Express report clarified that this figure reflects the value of Sona Comstar shares, not the actual transfer of assets. The children lack access, as "control of these assets remains with Priya Sachdev Kapur, and the children have no access to them," a source told the portal.
Reports from the courtroom indicate that the children have yet to receive a copy of their father's will or any information regarding his personal assets.
Karisma's lawyer, Mahesh Jethmalani, a senior advocate said, "Assuming the estate is worth Rs 30,000 crore and the children having allegedly received Rs 1,900cr from the RK Trust, still leaves over Rs 28,000cr to Priya Sachdev Kapur. Would she forsake a good part of that fortune? One has to understand and appreciate that this litigation is to ensure all the five Class 1 heirs including the two children of Karisma and Sunjay Kapur receive fair access to his estate."
Jethmalani clarified that the legal battle focuses on securing the children's future by ensuring their rightful inheritance of their late father's personal assets, not the trust benefits. "This litigation is about securing the future of Sunjay Kapur's children and ensuring fair access to the assets held in India and abroad," he stated.
