Can 'Sarzameen' be Ibrahim Ali Khan's answer to all the critics? Teaser out

A new project titled Sarzameen has officially been announced by Dharma Productions, marking another addition to their slate of OTT ventures. The film brings together a unique cast including Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan, and is set against a backdrop of conflict and national duty.

An announcement video released by the makers introduces the key characters and the tense atmosphere of the story. Kajol appears as a woman grappling with personal uncertainty, while Prithviraj portrays a soldier stationed in a conflict zone. Ibrahim Ali Khan also makes an impression in a brief yet intense glimpse, hinting at a darker role.

This is Ibrahim’s second film and his second direct-to-OTT release. He earlier appeared in Nadaaniyan where he played a romantic lead. With Sarzameen, he takes on a role that contrasts sharply with his earlier performance, suggesting a shift in his artistic direction. Interestingly, he has yet to make his theatrical debut, with both his films arriving on streaming platforms.

Kajol’s involvement adds weight to the project. She was recently seen in Maa, which continues to run in cinemas after a mixed reception. Her choice to follow it up with a digitally released story indicates an active interest in exploring different types of narratives across mediums.

Prithviraj Sukumaran, meanwhile, was recently seen in L2: Empuraan, which was made available on streaming after its theatrical run. The actor has also been directing high-profile Malayalam films while balancing his acting commitments. Sarzameen presents him in a role connected to armed service and conflict, placing him in the centre of a high-stakes environment once again.

The film is directed by Kayoze Irani, who previously helmed a segment in an anthology film. The story and screenplay are penned by Soumil Shukla and Arun Singh. Producers on the project include Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Star Studios. With a cast that spans generations and a story rooted in national tension, Sarzameen sets up a compelling premise for its digital release.
