BTS rapper and music composer SUGA aka Min Yoongi’s DUI case has been settled. It seems he has been told to pay a fine of USD 11,200 which comes close to Rs 9.5 lakhs. He has been given a week’s time to contest the fine. Besides, there is no revoking of his driving license or further fines. The rapper was caught by two cops falling off his electric scooter outside his apartment in Seoul. He confessed that he had a day off, and had been drinking with his friends. SUGA aka Min Yoongi is working as a public servant right now. He is not in the Korean military service because of his damaged shoulder.

The incident led to him facing severe flak on social media. BTS, hailed as one of Korea’s national treasures is a global phenomenon. In Korea, idols are expected to adhere to highest standards of moral and public behaviour. Such incidents can end careers. Many feel the fine is way too high given that there was no damage or injury to anyone including the person driving the electric scooter. JTBC ran a clip where one could see a man driving on the sidewalk of a main road, and they claimed it was SUGA. Later, the broadcaster was called out when the actual footage emerged. It was true to the account shared by SUGA that he fell outside his apartment.

ARMY, the BTS fandom feels the fine is way too high. They wondered if they charged a high fine just because he is a celebrity and one of the HNIs of the country. SUGA aka Min Yoongi is one of the pillars of BTS. A rapper, singer, composer and lyric-writer, he has made solo albums, as well as contributed greatly to superhit albums of BTS. His D-Day Tour that happened across the US and Asia made millions, and was the highest for a Korean soloist.
