How quickly the time passes by? It feels just like yesterday when all the lovebirds were fluttering around celebrating the month of February, the universal month of Love. And now it's March, a month dedicated to celebrating Women. But more on that from BollyCurry later, let's talk some business.
March opened up to
two fairly hyped movies; the Ram Gopal Varma thriller drama based on the
real life events of
Mumbai terrorist attacks, The Attacks of 26/11, and the John Abraham starrer light-hearted rom-com, I, Me Aur Main.
Both movies are drastically different in genres but alas, share the
same fate when it comes to weekend collections of the first week. Both
the movies were backed up by big production houses and starred, if not
complete A-list ensemble, fairly known actors. RGV
is probably the most consistent director of Bollywood. No amount of
failure can affect him. In fact, one can hardly remember his last
successful BO venture. The Attacks of 26/11, based on a issue
that shocked the nation, falls flats. The movie did pick up after its
opening day owing to the good reviews it got from the critics but it
wasn't enough to keep the reception strong. The movie managed to earn
approx 5 crores over the weekend.
I, Me Aur Main is John Abraham's first solo release after Force.
The rom-com genre is always welcome in Bollywood but for it to really
make a mark, it has to offer something unique in the done to death
genre. Unfortunately, I, Me Aur Main doesn't quite hit that mark.
The critics weren't all that excited by the movie and it seems neither
were the audience. Compared to the opening day, the movie managed to do
more business by Sunday but ultimately ended up earning a little more
than 5 crores over the weekend. Nah, not all that impressive.
