Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana were all set to team up for the much-anticipated war-drama movie, Border 2. However, recent reports reveal that Ayushmann Khurrana, known for Dream Girl 2, has opted out of the project citing uncertainties about his role. This film marks a significant reunion between Sunny Deol and JP Dutta after 27 years, promising to be a major collaboration in the film industry.

Earlier this year in June, Sunny Deol made the official announcement about Border 2, the sequel to his 1997 film, with Anurag Singh set to direct. The movie was initially expected to feature Ayushmann Khurrana. However, as per a report in Mid-Day, after extensive discussions with the Border 2 team, Khurrana has chosen to step away from the war drama starring Sunny Deol.

A source close to the development was quoted as saying, "Ayushmann was in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. While both Ayushmann and the makers were keen on collaborating, the actor felt unsure of his positioning in an ensemble led by Sunny, a towering star in his own right."

Amidst all the chatter online, there have been talks swirling around about Diljit Dosanjh, the Punjabi music sensation, possibly entering the star-studded lineup of Border 2. Although there's no official confirmation yet, reports suggest that the makers have reached out to the talented Crew actor for a potential role in the film.

The insider shared their excitement, mentioning that witnessing Diljit and Sunny sharing the screen would indeed be a delight, especially given their significant fan following in North India.

In June 2024, the legendary film Border marked its 27th year since release, and Sunny Deol brought joy to fans by officially declaring the sequel, Border 2. The news of this sequel has undoubtedly stirred excitement among enthusiasts of the original movie.

Taking to Instagram, Sunny dropped an announcement video, in which he said, "27 saal pehle ek fauji ne vada kiya tha ki vo vapas aayega. Ussi vaade ko poora karne, Hindustan ki mitti ko apna salaam kehne, aa raha hai," the post was captioned.

In the latest update on the film's release, a trusted source revealed to us that producers Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta are aiming for a Republic Day 2026 launch for the movie. The decision stems from the film's focus on honoring the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces, making January 26, 2026, the ideal date for its release.
